AGREED the Mandy Hill at #OASPA2025 that we should design a publishing system we want rather than trying to adapt what we have. It would be open by default. Certainly the arguments publishers make for why we should pay for OA underpin how dysfunctional their traditional subscription model is.

Again this invokes Merton's Norms of Science - Communism, Universalism, Disinterestedness & Organized Skepticism. We need re-evaluation
