We're turning a former opencast coal mine into a solar park - got to be one of my more poetic projects!

Elec price went up to over £1.50/kWh today (20 times normal) on the back of low wind + cold weather. In the future these will be the only times we'll need to crank up the old gas-powered generators. For now we can get a lot better at turning things off if they're not needed at that precise moment.

@emilypomroysmith.bsky.social good to hear about your solar install when we were on 5 Live together just now. The @nationwideuk.bsky.social 0% mortgage offer for green tech is interesting - hopefully the Govt's new scheme will make this kind of funding more widely available.

I made the point that a lot of people feel left out of the net zero agenda; solar is one of the main gateways to normalise clean tech (EVs are another, it's a pity they are all so damn expensive!). Connecting people to real progress on carbon is why we set up @bigsolarcoop.bsky.social

Fun being invited on BBC Radio 5 Live this evening to discuss the news that Govt are considering grants/cheap loans to enable more people to install solar. It's welcome as a move to democratise energy; I'd be keen to see it part of a wider policy to involve insulation /heat decarbonisation though.
