Another indication of growing US interest in Somaliland, as the Chair of the House Select Committee on the CCP calls for a 'representative office' to be established in Hargeysa. #Somaliland #Somalia
Also something to watch: #Jubaland may be looking to rebuild ASWJ in Gedo as an ally against its rivals. First step was nominating pro-ASWJ official Mohamed Hussin "al Qaadi" as new Gedo governor. #Somalia
#Somalia has forced out the pro-Madobe administration in Bardheere. Ethiopians reportedly reached a deal with the government to remain in the town. #Jubaland president is left with Doolow (also supported by Ethiopian troops) as his last major stronghold in Gedo region. What a dynamic.
12 Days after signing the Ankara Agreement, #Somalia accuses #Ethiopia of violating the accord amid fighting in #Doolow #Gedo.
There was fighting in #Doolow today after #Somalia government troops tried to interfere with the arrival of the new Gedo Governor appointed by #Jubaland president Ahmed Madobe. The pro-FGS ex-Governor of Gedo is rallying with the government in Garbahaarey.
it would, or at least in an FMS where the leader supports the process (over to you NIEBC). that would show his intentions are more genuine. as of now, it shows HSM using direct elections as a political cudgel rather than a goal in itself, as his opponents continue to say.

#Somalia is already socializing direct elections with elders in #Gedo, despite Jubaland president's disagreement with the process.

FGS wants to show Madobe does not even have enough control of #Jubaland to stand as a legitimate leader, particularly as he was indirectly elected.
he would have to introduce the recognition bill again if it is not considered this session (ending soon) but very interesting development

Make sure to check out Amani Africa's review of the funding options for AUSSOM, which will replace ATMIS in #Somalia. With time running out to agree, it's becoming likely that the mandate of ATMIS will need to be extended past 2024.
