Pinned Post Time!

I’m Jeffrey (he/him) and one of my favorite things to do is take and share pictures of all the wonderful birds I’ve had the opportunity to find. I’ve been presenting them as My Bird of the Day to spread the joy that birding brings me. #itsabird 🪶
A Green Jay perched on the end of a sawed off branch. A bird with a with multiple shades of green on the body and wings, with black neck and partial mask, and with pale blue head, and yellow undertail. It’s a very colorful bird that camouflages extremely well in its tropical and subtropical range. Found in South Texas April 2025

Today my Bird of the Day is the Steller’s Jay. Got a bird centric weekend ahead and I’m excited to get out while the getting is good in the Northland. #itsabird 🪶
A jay perched in a dense pine tree. Just its head and chest poke above the branches. A soft evening sun hangs behind.

Today my Bird of the Day is the Raven. I’ve posted this beauty before but it was such a thrilling experience. Top of a neat park overlooking a small town. It’s no wonder these birds inspire so much lore. 🪶 #itsabird

My Bird of the Day today is the Magpie. This, the Eurasian variety was found at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens. Additional spooky points for being photobombed. 🪶 #itsabird

Befriend this man. For all of us.

Is it time? Oh yes, it’s time. My Bird of the Day today needs no introduction. Corvids are amazing and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. From PDX last weekend the humble crow. 🪶 #itsabird

Though a Jay may be more fitting today I’ve decided that my Bird of the Day will instead celebrate a most fantastic birding day. The Northern Flicker goes by many names which I wholly support and was just one of the cool things I saw. Sapsucker, Harrier, Kestrel, otters, phoebe, cranes…🪶 #itsabird
A northern flicker perched at the end of a broken branch. Its tail supporting it like two cool fingers at the end. Puffy spotted chest and gorgeous red cheek patch.

Today my Bird of the Day is the Song Sparrow. Fun little brush hopper. I’ve seen them in many places and the differences are fun to notice but that line behind the eye always looks so good. 🪶 #itsabird
A small brown sparrow perched at the end of a mossy log. It’s looking back across its shoulder.

Today my Bird of the Day is the Steller’s Jay. This is not my usual style and I hope for a clearer sighting in the future but I did enjoy this for what it is. #itsabird 🪶

I gotta know. Did you ford it, use a ferry, seek a guide, or wait for the water level to drop? I’m given to understand those are the options.

My Bird of the Day today is the Inca Dove. One of the last birds I saw on the Texas trip this spring. 🪶 #itsabird
Dove with tail held high squatted down on a branch.

Today my Bird of the Day is this very judgmental Canada Goose. They’ve been basically everywhere I’ve looked the past few days as they binge on on grasses on their way south. 🪶 #itsabird
A Canada goose nestled into crunchy brown spring grass. Its side eye has a look that says it’s had enough of this photography bologna.

I do what I can to provide them clean water and fresh treats.

Today my Bird of the Day is the Grey Catbird. For a bird that isn’t known for its vibrant colors or particularly beautiful calls it’s still one I’m always thrilled to see. #itsabird 🪶
A grey bird with little black cap sits atop a dilapidated pointed fence board. Its beak wide open calling out its meow like song.

Today my Bird of the Day is the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. This spring started with finding some in Texas and now in fall in Minnesota they’re always a welcome find. Amazing to watch and wonder at how these tiny creatures travel such vast distances. 🪶 #itsabird
A wee green backed bird perched on a small twig. It stares blankly off at something seemingly in the distance probably contemplating the rapture or pretty flowers. Who knows what they think about but it’s probably spectacular.

Today my Bird of the Day is to celebrate getting a Covid and flu shot. It was apparently free and super easy to get. Sure my arm is a bit sore but it’s well worth it. 🪶 #itsabird 💉
