You SDSM was cursed because your luck was negative. FYI don't try to use a wand of wishing if you luck is negative or you might end up wasting a charge.

I only played Hack a few times so I don't know. Possible that it worked that way in an early version of nethack too.

It is perfectly fine to eat a shopkeeper as long as you aren't a human. If you are a human you get the cannibalism penalty but you will be let into other shops, they have no knowledge of each other.

The only diagonal restriction in nethack is in doorways. You can even kick the door down and then move diagonal if you want.

Oh yeah i understand that, but as a long time nethack player i say you still should go for it. The interface isn't as hard as it seems, but i might be biased from playing for so long.
