Easily one of my favorite targets. Just a quick shot to get started for the year!

09 November 2025, Moon at 80%.

Last crater and edge details from the other night! I wasn’t sure if this angle would turn out but now I love it.

Film had to have been an epic challenge! I have hard enough time using video and exporting/stacking images for the end result, which has been a fun experience in itself. Instead of 36 film shots to get a great one I’m trying around 30 sec of video and extracting 900 images per section to stack.

A few comparisons I ran to see what differences there are depending on atmospheric turbulence, camera settings, and processing techniques.

It’s fun to read about it, it’s way more fun to test it!

I’m a fan of the cropped version. The pillars are more prominent and interesting! The wide field feels like it has some empty space on the outside edges. Cool to see the way it fades outward in the wide field, but not as cool as the pillars and central details to me.

In my first 5 years in astrophotography it was really fun to start seeing patterns like shifting moon/sun rise and set positions on the horizon and how the constellations move throughout the year. I always wonder if the first humans who recognized this felt the same way.

That’s awesome! I was reading that the XLT coating is optimized for visual and CCD/photographic imaging, that was the win for me.

As for the C6, I feel like that convenience of use wins about every time. When I got my Seestar I used it constantly just because it’s so easy!

The forked tripod is epic!! Great setup, and such a cool backstory to it. I bet the high quality optics really pay off now too.

Thanks! That vintage C8 sounds amazing, is it the black tube assembly with the vintage hand controller? How is it holding up?

That’s great to know! I’m using this for Lunar shots only right now. I did test it out last night and it really struggled to find Saturn, had to do a bit of manual wandering to find it in the end.
