Model validation is not forecast verification.

Model Validation: use data from time t0, predict state at t0

Forecast Verification: use data at t0, predict state at t0+L, where L = forecast lead time

Many models that validate well fail to forecast skillfully

Heads up that SDO imagery will seemingly be unavailable for any unknown amount of time.

Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes there’s hiccups in the databases that can cause that. We don’t download any data - just pull from the native bases and display it. Goddard or one of the other servers may have been down. Let me know if it persists and we’ll look into it here.
