A bunch of random volunteers came together to make this happen and we have been putting in the work to make it the best we can. Together we decided this move was the best possible way to get things done 🙏🏻

Voters in NYC have spoken clearly: pro-worker policies are winning policies, and they've chosen a card-carrying Democratic Socialist to run against the Republican nominee and incumbent Eric Adams, a Democrat now running as an independent this November. (🧵5/5)

Though they'll continue tabulating those second- and third-choice votes until July 1st, Mamdani has a strong first-round lead with 43.5%; his runner-up, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has already conceded. (🧵4/5)

"Ranked choice voting is based on a simple premise: Democracy works better if people aren’t forced to make an all-or-nothing choice with their vote."

If no candidate has a majority, they'll eliminate the one in last and count their voters' next choices, and so forth until one has over 50%. (🧵3/5)

In NYC's mayoral primary, voters get to pick their FIVE favorite candidates, ranking them from most to least preferred.

This means, rather than having to vote for who they think is most likely to win, they can pick who they ACTUALLY support without having to worry about "splitting the vote." (🧵2/5)

In light of this victory for grassroots movements in NYC and around the country, let’s talk about the system that New Yorkers used to elect him: ranked-choice voting! (🧵1/5)

🚨 RAPID RESPONSE ‼️
sparcmi.bsky.social
This is a dangerous abuse of power. And we refuse to be silent. Ours and future generations will not inherit a world shaped by warlords in suits. We will organize. We will resist. And we will build something better.

50501MI stands with the people, not the empire.

We demand:
- An immediate end to U.S. aggression against Iran.
- Full Congressional hearings to stop unauthorized military actions.
- A recommitment to diplomacy, de-escalation, and international cooperation.
