"Ranked choice voting is based on a simple premise: Democracy works better if people aren’t forced to make an all-or-nothing choice with their vote."

If no candidate has a majority, they'll eliminate the one in last and count their voters' next choices, and so forth until one has over 50%. (🧵3/5)

In NYC's mayoral primary, voters get to pick their FIVE favorite candidates, ranking them from most to least preferred.

This means, rather than having to vote for who they think is most likely to win, they can pick who they ACTUALLY support without having to worry about "splitting the vote." (🧵2/5)
