There are 4 FIA Stewards for every F1 race. I’m the 5th. I’m the Spare Steward. Formerly FCW (@charlie_whiting)

While we’re on the subject of governance, I’d love to see paid permanent stewards who are required to provide a detailed report of findings after each decision.

If I’m going to dream, I’m going to dream big. #F1
I dream of the day when the @FIA leadership is decided my merit and vision as opposed to the opaque back-room dealing that has been its legacy.

It’s been a joke for decades. The Presidency is “handed off” to successors. No one independent ever has a chance. #F1
Is the @FIA and its governance of @F1 better after MBS became president or worse?

Its election model for decades as given a massive benefit to the incumbent. That’s why there’s only ever a change when the President decides on his own to leave.

Good luck. We’re in the era of authoritarians. #F1
"The election for the president of the FIA is over," Tim Mayer has said, who confirms his campaign for the presidency has not ended.

"There'll only be one candidate, the incumbent, and that's not democracy. That's the illusion of democracy." #F1
Some notes: (possible spoilers)

-you can’t race if you don’t qualify
-the Race Director decides red flag, not the Stewards
-that sausage kerb scene, uhm?
-there are 2 trophies for P1
-one needs an FIA superlicense and they are not easy to get
I saw the #F1 film. Overall I enjoyed it. The visuals on track were spectacular.

When they cut to a side by side shot of the two cars I thought we were going to be treated to a Frankenheimer homage.

Loved @wbuxtonofficial.bsky.social in it.
Sunrise at the Dunlop Bridge was one of the coolest moments of my life.
The new paddock buildings in Montreal are really nice. Glad the teams have a more appropriate space. Great investment. #F1
Oh I love WEC. Watching LeMans all day. I was there in 2018 and my love for it is total!
You know, Max Mosley was pretty good at his job. It was a different time, but he lead the FIA with intelligence and strength.

He and Bernie made an impressive combination. Maybe a bit too cozy, but those were the years that made this sport what it is today.

Meanwhile….

Interesting to see a race steward serve a race ban.

My tongue is bleeding.
#F1
FFS. Danica is in Montreal. I love this sport but it’s testing me. #F1
The Yuki passing under red penalty is dumb. We have carve outs for passing cars “in distress” on the formation lap or under yellow. This needs to be fixed in the Regs. #F1
They just did two massive updates. Brand new paddock building and this year new multilevel team hospitality buildings.
Moving the Canadian Grand Prix to a slot in May THREE WEEKS after Miami is all you need to know about how #F1 is being run today.

Clown car, gong show.

I’ve had 4 tickets at the CGP for over 20 years.

Montreal in May can be COLD.

And don’t get me started on the #Indy500 conflict.

Muppets.
Guyanese Chinese. It’s the best!

We knew it was coming, but it’s still very sad to hear. He put Ireland on the F1 map and he even swore at me in Irish once, thinking that I wouldn’t understand him 🇮🇪

Mark your calendars: Tomorrow (March 18), we're kicking off a two-part special digging into the explosive battle between the FIA and a consortium of teams called FOCA that nearly killed Formula 1.
Yes. One would think that would be a straightforward and consistent way to deal with this. But…
They are not (to my knowledge) published anywhere publicly.
Technical Directives are essentially clarifications to the Technical Regs. They are not publicly released and often contain important (even interesting) changes.
How is it possible that I have beaten the FIA to @bsky.app?

Come on. #F1
