Show Me Your #Teeth And I Will Tell You What You Eat: Differences in Tooth Enamel in #Snakes with Different Diets

#morphology #ecology #science #biology
Fig. 3Variation in enamel general morphology. Differences in enamel surface morphology with (A) corrugated enamel surface from Acrochordus javanicus (B) worn surface of Boiga cynodon, and crenellated surface of Eirenis decemlineatus (C); both enamel outer surface and DEJ (dentino-enamel junction) are highlight in yellow to emphasize the different enamel surface. Different enamel thickness from different snake teeth of different sizes with a small-sized tooth with a thick enamel layer in Liodytes rigida (D), a small-sized tooth with a thin enamel layer in Micrurus psyches (E), a large-sized tooth with a thin enamel layer in Boa constrictor (F), a medium-sized tooth with a medium thick enamel layer in Naja annulata (G). Fractured and detached enamel observed in Fordonia leucobalia in SEM and in CT longitudinal sections (H), and enamel layer observed on the anterior facet of a Clelia clelia tooth (I) compared to the enamel present in all tooth facets in Atractaspis engaddensis in the microscopic image and virtual section

Wowsers! Thank you for all the new follows 😃 I really appreciate each and everyone of you. I'm hoping 2025 will offer me more time to post personal art. I've also been busy taking the Vancouver Master Gardeners course, which is through the Van Dusen Botanical Garden. It's been a nice distraction 💚🌿
In the foreground are the green glossy leaves of an evergreen Magnolia with a pink seed head in the middle. In the background there is the head of Quetzalcoatlus pterosaur in the shadows with a golden highlight.

To celebrate #YearOfTheSnake, here's my reconstruction of a Hell Creek boid preying on Cimolestes. These 2 lived alongside Tyrannosaurus & Triceratops, and were reconstructed for the Cretaceous Creatures project

I drew this line as sea snakes a few years back and had decided to revisit the concept!

also today i bring you... very-fast-and-not-anatomically-good sketches from museums. they all were done almost two years ago, i think. not a good research, but good practice anyway

A digital drawing; few sketches of extinct animal skeletons on the page, done in the museum right on the spot. No, i did not count the ribs for it, my apologies. A digital drawing; few sketches of extinct animal skeletons on the page, done in the museum right on the spot. Again no ribs and teeth were counted. Yeah. A digital drawing; few sketches of extinct animal skeletons (and other stuff) on the page, done in the museum right on the spot. Even less detailed. It was done in the museum of siberian ice age, and there was nothing to sit on and the ipad is heavy, and the lady there was complaining that i stand in front of things too much. Whoops. A digital drawing; few sketches of extinct animal skeletons on the page, done in the museum right on the spot. Did not count anything for that drawing too and it was even faster than previous ones were done... I feel bad for that tarbosaur on the right.

"King of Meadows" - Prospective printmaking design. I'm not sure how large this would need to be nor if I'd need to do woodcut or linocut. Or if it'd be better off being screenprinted.

But...whatever I decide in the far flung future here's the art for it. #art #printmaking #megaloceros #pleistocene

Sketch to final- a painting of the iconic giant deer, Megaloceros! #paleoart #paleosky #iceageart #pleistocene
Pencil sketch of Megaloceros, the view is a down shot from behind and the deer’s giant antlers are most clearly visible. The final painting inspired by the sketch- the view is a wide shot of the mammoth steppe, and Megaloceros’ giant antlers are spotlit as the animal looks away from the viewer towards the horizon.
