He started last season at 7 to be fair (still being used as the main spinner over Briggs). People forget he's so young, played so few games and missed a lot of what would have been his first full county year with injury - all combined made it hard for War to have done much different to what they did
He batted 5 last season for us, well before he got called up for England, what more do you expect with that top 4! I have never heard a single other person suggest he should have started his career as an opener or batting in the top 4
You think a 17/18 year old playing his first few games of professional cricket, being picked as the main spinner in the side (doing exactly what he'd being used for at youth level) should have opened the batting even though we had 3 experienced openers in the side in Rhodes, Yates and Davies?
This is the first game he's played for Warwickshire since he made his England debut! He was originally in the side for his spin as much as anything else (he replaced Briggs) in the traditional AR role at 6/7. The same position/role he was used in by the Lions and England youth sides
He's batting at 5. We have 3 openers (Latham is having to bat 3) and Hain has been excellent at 4 for some time so obviously will stay there. He's batting exactly where he should
Is Danny Briggs still alive? I'm sure this guy would be great but given we don't have a single overseas for the Blast at the moment, maybe spend the money on that instead given we have 3 spinners we can already use in the CC!!
Excellent from Matt and Neil on affordability checks and problem gambling. A must watch for anybody with strong opinions on the subject, especially those on the left.
Thanks @racingtv.com for having me on today. Those interested in reducing gambling harm can align with those wanting to defend horse racing by joining growing calls for separate wallets and platforms for online casino and slots

Yet another empty stadium. It's hard to be in any way positive about the Champions Trophy!
Yeah England are doing so many basic things wrong - not picking their best players, making little effort to adapt to conditions, picking 1 LH bat and 0 LH bowlers, a questionable culture around the squad and a lack of training... to name just a few!
How many domestic 50 over games do you think the Afghan players have played in the last few years? Same with India, who are comfortably the best ODI side in the world.

It's not ideal but we're not the only country where the top players play next to no List A cricket outside of a few ODIs a year
No, but this doesn't fit the agenda of blaming the lack of 50 over cricket played by the English players. Look how few domestic List A games the Afghans have played in their entire careers. Same with India recently, despite being by far the best side. It's far from the main reason we're rubbish
The fringe countries you are talking about expanding it to (Nepal, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, PNG, Oman etc) correctly use what little funds they have in T20 where they can compete.

Netherlands, who would be a top 12 side (let alone 16), have won 2 out of 24 ODIs this decade against the top 10 sides
I'm all for the expansion of the T20 WC, as I said, since it's played all over the world. Expanding the 50 over WC seems pointless when it's a) dying out according to every metric you look at b) played by a much smaller % of countries than T20 and c) statistically proven to have more 1 sided games
With the T20 WC we need as many countries involved as possible. If we're going to persist with this dreary outdated format, the last thing it needs is more 1 sided matches. Only 8 teams involved in this and favourites are all winning comfortably. For ODI I agree with 10-12 team format with 2 groups
Pretty well summed up! All this talk (correctly) of there being too much cricket, this has to be the first thing binned off, no idea why they brought it back
Interesting catching technique from Gareth Delany!
That's a pretty dreadful PP. The bowling was poor and the batting even worse.

Not convinced things will get much more interesting anytime soon given the way Pakistan usually approach overs 10-30
The perfect time to sack your coach apparently
Perfect man for the job, gl Olly!
Westwood's appointment seems very much to minimise disruption given how close it is to the start of the season. It's also a continuation of the 'jobs for the boys' setup which I'd hoped the review might have looked at and questioned! Seems to have taken an age and done very little
Johnathan Campbell is captaining Zimbabwe on debut!

When was the last time that happened in a Test match? @zaltzcricket.bsky.social @awsstats.bsky.social
Well done to Usman Khawaja, pity he seems to be a lone voice among prominent cricketers when it comes to the sacking of Peter Lalor
Peter Lalor was sacked by SEN halfway through the first Test between Aus and SL for retweeting support for Palestinians and it's barely got a mention.

Here's hoping some solidarity is shown by the fellow cricket writers at Cricinfo and @thecricketer.com by covering this

Triple wicket maiden!!
We're well beyond the embarrassing stage for this England W side and into humiliation. Predictable thrashing for a complacent and thin skinned side but I didn't expect to lose 16-0 and the wheels to come off to this extent.

Hopefully brings a much needed reality check and top to bottom changes
