I seriously doubt the generals that would commit to a coup to save our constitutional republic would plan on staying in power, but you're right, you never know what people will do once they taste power.

Still though, I'd happily take that chance if we don't get real mid term elections.

The main problems with 1 iare that this regime will obviously try to prevent a fair election and a couple Dems from pretty red states would have to win in the Senate.

The main problem with 2 is that the military may well be fractured if a coup is attempted.

I see two at least somewhat likely possibilities.

1. We do manage to have reasonably free and fair elections in the midterms and the Democrats manage to sweep Congress.

2. There are enough people in the military that took their oaths to heart and we see a successful military coup.
