I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

Don't bother arguing about whether ICE is a police force or a military force. It's neither. It behaves as a disorganized, violent mob, cursing, shouting contradictory orders, and attacking unarmed citizens on a whim. It is deployed to create fear and chaos, not to enforce laws or establish order.

I finally realized what this is about. The endgame with Trump will be to declare the Democratic party a terrorist organization then start arresting people. He needs the party affiliation. This is not about immigration in any way.
