I feel the "but Hamas!" argument falls in the same category. I'm not gonna argue I don't support Hamas; that's pretty useless. But my country isn't allied to Hamas, it's allied to Israel and that makes it my duty to call out their war crimes and not be complicit in them.

TERFs saying being transgender is a mental illness is another example. We end up arguing that, no it isn't. But the argument is ableist as well as transphobic - so what if it IS a mental illness? It's a non-issue, because the proper treatment is still the same (transition and accomodation).

Sometimes it feels to me that in the public debate about social issues everybody follows the same scripts, resulting in the same argument-and-response, and I think that puts progressive leftists, especially, perpetually on the defensive.

Why do we still bother engaging TERFs on their "biological reality" argument on the basis that it's a biological argument at all and not about SOCIALLY accepting transgender people in public space on basis of the gender they identify with? Why don't I ever see anyone point that out?

This is pure nostalgia - I remember when this AMV was NEW! It's such a great overview of late nineties/early noughties anime culture, too. I can name almost all of the movies/series. And sub/dub wars etc... yup, that was what it was like!

One thing I WON'T have at Thought Bubble is New Scarenthood. Since last year's show, I've managed to get all rights back (YAY!) and move it along in lots of significant and unexpected ways!

I'm not quick to body shame and I actually like the smell of a bit of sweat on a dude, but there's this guy at the local video game store who REEKS. Surely that can't just be a weight/medical issue?
