Through encounter analysis, loitering behaviour, and anomalous-movement detection, Starboard traced NOVA north toward waters adjacent to Hong Kong, where its ownership links are registered — illustrating coordinated AIS manipulation and cross-jurisdictional obfuscation.

The first identity hand-off occurred on 8 Sep 2025 in India’s EEZ off Kerala, with a permanent change on 21 Sep inside Malaysia’s EEZ off Johor — a deliberate digital-impersonation sequence captured by Starboard.

Starboard analysis confirms NOVA, also known as EGRET and JADEAR, is false-flagged, de-classed, and without P&I cover. Sanctioned by US Treasury OFAC since May 2025 and listed by unitedagainstnucleariran.com since 2022, it fits a wider shadow-fleet pattern moving Iranian crude in uninsured tankers.

Starboard Maritime Intelligence has identified a false-flagged VLCC — NOVA (#IMO9283801) — transiting west through the Malacca Strait. It is now operating as ARROW (#IMO9212876), scrapped in 2018 as S MISTRAL. The stolen identity and AIS spoofing indicate sanctions evasion.
