Youtube has a much bigger reach and when these guys took off is when youtube REALLY started getting popular and the more wider internet social media spaces began to form and thus, those negative, asshole voices got amplified louder.

The way some things were written might have influenced some negative fan opinions and discourse but honestly, I think asshole youtubers like the Nostalgia Critic, Cinemas Sins, the Honest Trailer guys, all them sorts did a lot worse to ruin media critque.

Some of them had good points, like yeah I think some white creatives have bias issues and yes, some people in this fandom do some awfully racist shit to Catra but like... so much of this shit really just was the worst and I want to be away from it for the rest of my life.
