Today DCMS took the decision NOT to list the UK's oldest working cinema, The Electric in Birmingham

Our hopes now rely on Councillors doing everything in their power to get the best result for you with the least harm caused to the your historic arts street

We're sorry Brum 💔
13 month update:

The Electric - Awaiting listing appeal outcome & @flatpack continue the feasibility study
43-45 Station Street - Listing application submitted
The Crown - 🤷🏼‍♂️ we're hearing Toyoko Inns are, after 10yrs, preparing a planning application but for who knows what!
Birmingham has 106 days until #BlackSabbath say goodbye at the greatest rock show in history

It'll be a huge embarrassment if the world comes to see Sabbath and their birthplace, the spiritual home of Brum music & Heavy Metal looks like this.

Will Brum civic leaders rescue The Crown?
The plight of Birmingham's Electric Cinema featured on BBC Politics Midlands on Sunday. We hope Lisa Nandy listens when Sonia Kumar MP tells her how important The Electric is to Station Street, Birmingham and the West Midlands! 💔

Thanks to the panel for recognising The Electric✊🏼

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Glenbrook Property closing The Electric Cinema in Birmingham.

115 years The Electric has stood on Station Street. A listing decision has been with DCMS since mid-Dec.

A reminder what Glenbrook want to demolish in Birmingham...
This time last yr none of us knew the 115yr old Electric Cinema wouldn't reopen in 24 hours

Tomorrow will be the 1 yr anniversary of its closure thanks to Glenbrook Property's plans to demolish it

Birmingham waits, breath held for Lisa Nandy's listing decision 💔🙏🏼
Reflecting on almost a yr of this campaign to save The Electric Cinema & The Crown

I'm glad we've been able to tell the forgotten stories that defined 20th Century Birmingham's creativity

We just wish both buildings weren't still boarded up. 💔
Day 349.

Silence from Lisa Nandy on saving the UK's oldest working cinema from Glenbrook Property

Silence from Birmingham City Council on saving the birthplace of Black Sabbath & Heavy Metal from Toyoko Inn

One street. Two iconic venues at risk from greed. But who cares about Birmingham I guess?
You can't tell the global story of Birmingham & Brum identity, over the last 100 yrs, without The Electric Cinema & The Crown

Glenbrook Property & Toyoko Inn rob the city, but history will always blame those in power who let it happen...
Today we submitted a petition of 24,151 signatures asking Lisa Nandy to approve listing The Electric Cinema

Station St can create jobs & attract 000's of thousands of visitors while celebrating Brummie icons. Or we can lose Station St. to Glenbrook Property's tower.

Heartbreaking isn't it. Nothing is safe from predatory developers.
Very tired
What's the background to this?
Yup. We've been fighting Glenbrook Property for almost a year since they closed the 115yr old cinema in Birmingham. Sick of these phallus obsessed vampires leaching off our beloved cultural sites.
Today Birmingham Council will decide on giving BlackSabbath the freedom of the city of Birmingham. 🦇🤘🏼

We hope councillors will also use it to point out that a genuine, lasting Sabbath legacy MUST include saving The Crown. ToyokoINN_JP don't care about it. Start the CPO!
13th Jan 1970.
55yrs ago today you could have been at work, waiting to go and see Black Sabbath playing their spiritual home, Birmingham's The Crown.

Sabbath were celebrating the release of their debut single 'Evil Woman'.

This is the state of The Crown today...🤦‍♂️
Hear me out Birmingham... As you like the Mr_Murals Peaky Blinders
mural on Digbeth Loc Studios so much...

How about a giant Ozzy Osbourne on Station Street as per Robbie Jeffcock's work?
Did somebody order a protest for The Electric Cinema's 115th Birthday Party?

In town today? Why not stick a birthday or Christmas card on the horrible Glenbrook Property boarding with a bit of blue tack or sellotape. 🎉🥳
Glenbrook Property closed the UK's oldest working cinema (1909) to demolish it for flats.

For The Electric Cinema's 115th Birthday on Dec 27th we go live to the Glenbrook Property's CEO for a special Christmas message...

(p.s. Stop Glenbrook. Save The Electric Cinema!)
Photo #1: The Birmingham Arms in Digbeth
Photo #2: What replaced it.

*Sigh*

Can't wait for The Crown & The Electric Cinema to feature on these in 20 years when everyone thinks we're morons for letting them be gutted or accidentally burnt down.

Literally paved paradise to put up a parking lot 🤦‍♂️
The Electric Cinema's 115th Birthday is on 27th December.

There will be no party because property developers want to demolish it for a block of "luxury" flats.

We legally can't suggest you blue tack a load of Birthday Cards, Balloons & Bunting to the boards over Christmas.
New week! New opportunities!

Will we hear if Lisa Nandy is listing the UK's oldest cinema, Birmingham's The Electric?

Will @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social take action against Toyoko Inns for the neglect of the Birthplace of Black Sabbath - The Crown?

Anyone for an early Christmas miracle?
"Culture is for life, not just the Commonwealth Games" 🦇

It's time Birmingham saves the UK's most important grassroots arts street.

The birthplace of Heavy Metal & Black Sabbath, The Crown &
The UK's oldest cinema, The Electric.
In one month, on the 27th Dec, the UK's oldest cinema, Birmingham's The Electric, will be 116 years old

Instead of celebrations it sits rotting because Glenbrook Property want to gut it for flats

We call on Historic England, Birmingham Council, The WM Mayor & Lisa Nandy to #SaveTheElectric
Have you told the independent feasibility study what you want to see in the future for the UK's oldest cinema, Birmingham's The Electric?

You only have until 30th November to have YOUR voice heard at this stage.
