A candle burns for John Stapleton – journalist & presenter – on our #Journalists_Altar.

We pray for him, his family and friends and give thanks for all his work. May he rest in peace.
#stbrideschoir sings Victoria's resplendent anthem to all the saints – "O quam gloriosum" – at #choralevensong to mark the feast of St Matthew. All welcome to stay after for drinks & nibbles and the chance to catch-up. #FleetStSocial
This Sunday we mark the feast of the #HolyCross and reflect on the transformative power of the cross, turning an instrument of death into the tree of life and reconciliation.

The Guild of St Bride begins its celebrations of 650 years since foundation this Sunday with a newly commissioned anthem in praise of St Bride – "A Voice for our Age" – from Helen Neeves (formerly #StBridesChoir, now BBC Singer).
We pray for the safety and well-being of all journalists and crew reporting on the Israeli-Gaza war.

We remember veteran journalist & broadcaster Fred Emery on our #Journalists_Altar.

In his 24 years @thetimes.com, Emery scooped the Watergate scandal and reported the Vietnam War as a foreign correspondent and sparred with PM Thatcher as political editor.

May he rest in peace.

I paid a visit to @stbrides.com on Fleet Street - the journalists church - earlier today. It's good to sometimes just sit and gather your thoughts a little, especially when you sense you might be struggling.
We remember on our #Journalists_Altar 6 journalists killed today in Gaza, including Anas Al Sharif & 4 @aljazeera.com colleagues.

We pray for them, their families & for the safety of all reporting in Gaza. #journalismisnotacrime

We continue to pray for peace & a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Vaughan Williams's beautiful 'Serenade to Music' telling of lovers sitting under the stars, enchanted by the music of the spheres at #ChoralEvensong. Plus a chance to bid adieu to #StBridesChoir member, Bob Bryan.
Delightfully surprising Gloria at #ChoralEvensong in Mathias's @jesuscollegecam.bsky.social service setting.

Plus Wood's classic anthem "Hail, gladdening Light" making full use of Wren's double-choir collegiate layout in the nave.

All welcome. As ever!
Sunday at 5:30pm.
#Journalists_Altar A candle burns for two veteran journalists:

Michael Toner – chief leader writer @dailymail.co.uk who wrote their historic 'Murderers' front page.

Vic Chapple – news editor @thetimes.com & @thesun.co.uk which he helped transform into a successful tabloid.

May they rest in peace.
The #OlsenLecture has sparked fascinating, wide-ranging talks for over 30 years.

This year, Luke Johnson who believes entrepreneurs are our best chance for growth, questions if the UK is still a good place for business.

"Greater love hath no man than this" was written by John Ireland in 1912 and soon gained a special national resonance as casualties from WW1 grew.

It sets text from both St Peter and St Paul so is the perfect anthem for their joint feast day.

#ChoralEvensong #StPeterStPaul
2/2 Stephen Jessel – @thetimes.com and BBC, much-loved BBC Radio 4 From Our Own Correspondent #FOOC contributor who reported on many significant international events including Princess Diana's death and the return of Ayatollah Khomeini to Iran after the revolution.

May they rest in peace.
Two veteran journalists recently commemorated on our #Journalists_Altar:

Roger Cooper – freelancer who reported Iranian human rights abuses and was arrested while living there, sentenced to imprisonment then death but abruptly released after 6 years.

#ChoralEvensong this Sunday is the last chance to hear the glorious tenor voice of Thomas Herford before he leaves the choir after 17 years.

Tom's beautiful singing will be sorely missed, as will his warm and generous friendship to all at St Bride's, especially his #stbrideschoir colleagues.
Perfect music for a moment of calm reflection at #ChoralEvensong this week – Byrd's "Short Evening Service" then a #SermoninMusic of Gibbons' intimate anthem "See, see the Word is incarnate" & Willaert's beautifully woven polyphonic "Victimae paschali laudes".
