Hello Bluesky! I've been here a while but I want to introduce you all to my work at Brown's Promise. (THREAD)

America's public schools are re-segregating, and are now at rates not seen since the 1970s. This is a problem that affects all corners of American life. Brown's Promise aims to fix it.
So we’re clear, this is an ad for one of the highest valued company in the world?

Ready for a nutz fact? If you're looking at 8th grade reading scores, students in Georgia who do not qualify for free and reduced lunch (so, middle and upper income) perform better than any other similar students in the country. Our issue is that our state refuses to do right by low-income kids

The dividing line between the default reach-out of “call on the phone” or “send a text” is the graduating class of 2000. I will not be taking questions at this time.

Stop calling MTG a "voice of reason." She's acting like any cult leader who's been pushed out from an internal power struggle. She's promoted Sandy Hook as a hoax and Jewish space-laser conspiracies. She is nothing less than a complete loon, whom no one should take seriously.

People can build a city that reaches heaven with a controversial new app. How does it work?

New startup, Be-able, uses artificial intelligence to DIY a skyscraper that declares to the nations that we have conquered the need for a creator and ascends to paradise without any need for forgiveness.

The effort to eliminate the income tax without admitting what taxes will increase is a perfect storm to bankrupt the state

If Georgia drops income tax, will sales taxes rise?
How could Georgia eliminate its income tax? By relying more heavily on sales taxes to pay for government services, a survey of other states shows.

Yes I’ve heard about senate democrats, no I’m not happy about it.

In other news this is dope and I’m begging the Blanks to name the team something tangible because team names as ideas bum me out

Found out late last night that I lost my race for school board. Below are some thoughts on what I learned and will take away from this campaign.

First, I’m so thankful for my wife who shouldered even more of the house and childcare work so that I could be out canvassing or at talks, etc.

Really appreciate this nuanced thinking of school choice in New Jersey here. Allowing more students to transfer between districts can help alleviate segregation, but leaders have to keep equity at the center of any expansion.

People have asked how they could help in the lead up to the election and the answer is: please join me in doing what you can to make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry

I have to say this is special to me. At my job I've been lucky to work for talented Black women attorneys who advance racial equity and shown me how I can better listen to the needs of communities as we put forward a vision of public education that refuses to believe that separate will ever be equal

You're a billionaire who wants to improve education? Pay taxes, spend advocating for decoupling public ed from property taxes, and give lots of money to make sure that children aren't hungry. You'll do a lot more good than founding another scam school trying to union bust.

I wanna tell y'all about a city that has been on my mind for a minute: Remerton, GA. Remerton is in south Georgia and has been a city since 2000, It has a current population of around 1,300 people. Remerton is fascinating to me because it shows just how ridiculous school district lines can be.

Neat.
“Dr. Owens will be my pick for my School Board representation because we need a wonk. This man has worked on budgets from a policy standpoint for his career, and I’m ready to have someone who seems to know at least more than me sitting on that board.”

I got this text last night after a school board candidate debate and it’s the raddest thing. What an honor to earn someone’s trust, if even just for a vote
