Here I thought we'd hit rock-bottom when we sent our children off to school with Kevlar school bags and said, "Have a great day, honey. Don't get shot."

Some good news to share, amid all the bad: These Are My People gets a nice write-up from Windy City Reviews. Thanks to @chicagowrites.bsky.social for making it happen.
"...not only impeccably written but surprising."

Wow. Random notes like this mean so much:

Dear Steve — [These Are My People] is the exact book I was hoping for. It filled my soul and broke my heart all at once.

Only thing cooler than my hair is my books. Had a great time at last night’s launch of These Are My People, hosted by Chapter2Books. Thanks to all who came from far and wide to attend and hear me ramble.

Rabbit-hole rabbit-hole rabbit-hole rabbit-hole rabbit-hole. I’ve heard this said 100 times this week.

NEW RULE. You don’t get to use this metaphor unless a. You’re actually physically stuck in a rabbit-hole (then it’s not really not a metaphor, but still), or b. you know Alice.

Had a great time last week at the Cornerstone book launch party. Honored to be on stage with Calvin Mills (The Caged Man) and Barry Pearce (The Plan of Chicago), two great fiction writers.

Good morning!
Daylight Saving Time. For the same reason we say

Dog walking time.
Story telling time.
Beer drinking time.
