Dirt Upon My Skin, my archaeology themed horror collection, is still available direct from the publisher @blackshuckbooks.bsky.social for the grand total of £5.99 for the paperback, or £1.49 for the ebook.

That’s 59p a story for the dead tree version or less than 15p a story in electrical form!
Fantastic! Hope you enjoy it.

What I meant to write was, "She’d never been one for hiding her fears and doubts"
What I actually wrote was, "She’d never been one for hiding her fears and donuts"
Which is a lie. You should always hide your donuts. There are children out there. And squirrels.

It's an excellent book. Need to get the sequel. Don't have any cheap rum in the house as such, but we do have a bottle of Sailor Jerry rum which would probably do the job!

New publishing opportunity!

The London Record Society are looking for someone to edit a volume based on the archive of the Working Ladies' Guild, which supported impoverished women in late nineteenth-century Britain.

Happy World Walrus Day! The English word walrus probably comes from Dutch and means “whale horse.” The Albanian name for a walrus, lopë deti, means “sea cow.” And the Navajo word for a walrus is tábąąstííntsoh bideeʼ hólónígíí. It means “big otter that lies on the shore, with tusks”

The books are assigned randomly to the free book bags at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social so I was over the moon to find mine contained an ARC of Gothmagog by Jeff Noon and Steve Beard. I’ve long been a fan of Jeff Noon’s work so this made my day.

Today I'm on the Write and Wrong Podcast, talking about our series of Writing... books from Dead Ink, ways of worldbuilding in fantasy fiction, and the rather chaotic path I've taken through publishing. Maybe give it a listen!

As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we’ve made
Walking in an Autumn wonderland🎵

Going on a family trip to Copenhagen in the new year, if anyone has any good recommendations. (Already found a good place to get cake 😉)

Started in on my @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social books today, pairing The River Has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com with a gorgeous apple and cinnamon layer cake. Both the cake and the book are sumptuous delicacies, and perfect to enjoy on a winter’s day.

Picked up this three CD set at the library sale. I’m not sure if I heard it on @laurenlaverne.bsky.social’s compilation of the week in the past, but it would definitely fit there.
