as i told the group chat one time: kalais thinks rules are for people who can't get away with breaking them. that boy is an unrepentant cheat (which is the part of the game that he takes seriously. winning or losing is whatever, cheating is what matters)

while my fics tend to have a Lot of interiority because i love to write a character musing about their situation, i don't tend to write those musings in that character's voice. except when it comes to eylanni. then i can't help it

He sets his mug down to talk with his hands as he fills Thancred in on everything that ever happened with Wilred. Hands are less dangerous to gesture with, and Wilred is a more comfortable topic of conversation than Eylanni’s own family. He doesn’t know how to quickly sum up any of what led him away from his home and brought him out here, and he especially doesn’t know how to tell anyone that he can’t go home without crying about the giant wall blocking his way. So really it’s for the best that he not talk about it at all. He tells Ryder stories about his sisters sometimes, and he figures that’s good enough. The Scions are…well, they mean well! They’re nice and they like to solve problems and they’re good at it, too. They saved the world from the Garleans, after all! But Eylanni doesn’t much feel like being their next problem to solve. Ryder listens to him and doesn’t judge, just nods along and offers little stories of his own siblings too. He can talk to Ryder. Not Thancred. Not about that, anyway.
