Good morning! Texas is revising its K-12 social studies standards (TEKS) for 5.5 million kids, & the State Board of Education (SBOE) is meeting today to discuss their progress today. I will be live-tweeting (posting?) about anything that concerns social studies. Follow this thread for updates!

So today’s news was that the Justice Dept forced the ouster of a university president in Virginia over politics, and that Texas A&M took away academic freedom from profs who teach things they disagree with. And yet the same people demand intellectual diversity and “civil discourse” on campus?

My generational divide moment for the first week of class: Attended an orientation in which the icebreaker was “what song is your most liked on Spotify,” but I don’t fully understand why you need to like songs on Spotify nor could I recognize 80% of the songs/bands mentioned.

Delighted to learn a little #histed while on a brewery tour yesterday.The Annheuser-Busch brewery is located on Pestalozzi Street, and is right on the site of the Lyon School in St. Louis, constructed in 1868. I’m sure Johann Pestalozzi would be proud.
