This is exactly how I explained Andrew Wakefield's "conclusions" to a friend (Wikipedia sums him up quite well). I used the example of children who wore a red coat.
I was at school when effective and diverse energy storage was a thing. Simple stuff like pumping water to hydro dams as well as batteries. You could even extract Hydrogen if you wanted to power cars with something inherently less efficient than just charging EVs. I was at school almost 50yrs ago.
I can remember backing the film "Being Frank" about Frank Sidebottom on Kickstarter, I think it was about 8 years later I was sitting next to the creator at the premier, and it was brilliant.
