Oct. 11, 1967: The expansion Penguins played their first game in the NHL, losing 2-1 to the Canadiens in Pittsburgh. Gilles Tremblay and Jean Béliveau scored for Canadiens while Andy Bathgate scored the first goal in Penguins history.

Oct. 11, 1987: Longest consecutive games streak in NHL history ended at 964 games when former Canadien Doug Jarvis didn't dress for Hartford Whalers' 5-2 loss to Bruins at Boston Garden. Jarvis was sent to the minors and never played another NHL game.

Oct. 11, 1961: Jean Béliveau was named captain of Canadiens. He succeeded Doug Harvey, who was traded to N.Y. Rangers on June 13. Béliveau would be captain for 10 years, winning five Stanley Cup during that time. He won 10 Cups during his career.

That's what I think. The celebration last night for Blue Jays was basically the same celebration they will have if they actually win the World Series.

It's interesting how hockey players won't even touch the conference championship trophies after they win them but baseball players celebrate after every playoff round victory like they just won the World Series.
