Went to the planetarium and got to watch a really cool star show about dark matter narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson and the dome theater was so awesome! I went with two space nerds so it was extra fun!

Finally got around to preordering Pokemon ZA, I'm excited to see what mystery pin I get 😊

Won't have time to play it until a few days after it releases which is fine because my friend is still visiting until then, and I've been lucky to avoid most spoilers until now, hope that lasts!

-and it reminds me of how much I wish emotional health, wellness and helping kids find what tools work best for them when dysregulated or in crisis, because it feels like *something* at least. I want to see everyone have resources, suicide is the most preventable of deaths and I wish more could help

-know how to help them because most teachers are not qualified to help guide youth in distress, and even if the program isn't a good fit for all of them, I've seen the transformation of so many kids. I know where they came from, seen the hope and excitement they have when they're enabled to do well-

This feels especially personal because I work with teens in the mental health field in a therapeutic environment to teach DBT, emotional regulation, boundary setting, skills for adulthood, etc. Our students often have minor criminal records/major struggles in the education system that doesn't-

-could have done to help sooner? I think about that kid and all the other kids and teachers who will carry this for the rest of their lives because this teen felt so cornered that taking his life felt like the only option

Kid wasn't even 15 yet and my brother knew him. I have a lot of conflicting feelings about it because my heart goes out to him and the family, it's just hard because why did he bring a loaded gun on a field trip? Why did he do it in front of his classmates and teachers? Was there anything anyone-
suddenlyshayla.bsky.social
I never really mentioned this but about two weeks ago my little brother was on a field trip with his class and one of the students brought a loaded gun and tragically took his life. My brother fortunately went to the stream with his friend and unlike so many other kids he was lucky not to see it

I really like the freedom and flexibility of having most the training and being able to functionally act as a supervisor when it's helpful/in the moment, and I don't really like bossing people around anyway or always being the go-to person in charge, it's exhausting haha

She looked really bewildered when I told her??? It's funny because my boss has asked a few times if I wanted to make it official since I technically have the prelim training and am already head of house, but I told her I didn't because I don't want to deal with all that comes with management haha
