I came across the BEST name for a literary character today: Tobias Pfutze. Pfutze is German for "puddle" or "small pool of dirty water." Please use with caution; he is an economist and deserves his dignity!

On Thurs 4/10, the TN State Senate is voting on SB0836, the bill allowing school districts to discriminate against students based on their immigration status. Just saw a popup ad for insider tips to "up your Bumble game" and considered it for a moment, but then had an epiphanoo (word credit to @mariabamford.bsky.social; imagine a lesser epiphany), and it is this: I would honestly rather go to the gym than go on a date. And I HAAAAATE going to the gym. 1/

...my early development of cataracts) for radiation, which also burned the skin around my face and eyes. I wish I hadn't sought to get my clogged tear duct in my right eye fixed surgically years previously (twice!). I wish I hadn't gone to Vanderbilt Eye Institute for my basic eye care. 4/4

...feared, although the cataracts that appeared a few years later due to the radiation treatment were deeply distressing, since none of my eye doctors thought to tell me that my increasingly poor vision was due to cataracts! ("But your vision is 20/20!") I was terrified 2/4

Today is the ten-year anniversary of the call from an eye surgeon telling me that the biopsy they had done a few days earlier showed I had conjunctiva lymphoma in both eyes (we had thought it was pinkeye!) It was an awful day. But looking back now, it wasn't nearly as bad an experience as I had 1/4

I wish I could teach my phone that whenever I’m playing a game, I will NEVER download Royal Match, and to stop showing me ads for it. I can’t think of anything more repellent than a game that shows someone about to die in a torture scenario overandover again.

I was building some website stuff about economics for work, and came across this amazing tool called AbortionAccessDashboard.org. Basically an economics-based database about abortion facility availability, travel time for states with full abortion bans, etc. Fascinating and useful!
