Thinking of opening some painted headshot comms or silly doodles to help pay for daifuku's medical bill cause it's been HEFTY. Xrays had to be doen. But the boy is lungabcess free which the vet was scared for.

He's already shown me more energy after his first dose of antibiotics settled too! 🥹

Lakrissa sighed and wrapped an arm around Alfira’s waist, her brow creasing with concern. “Alfie, what is going on with you?”

Heat flashed up Alfira’s neck and ears. “Nothing!” she insisted, but she could feel her face wobbling with the effort of fighting off the rising tide of tears.

“Alfie!” Lakrissa said with an edge in her voice but quickly softened. “Please, tell me what’s wrong.”

Alfira’s stoic facade failed, and she crumpled into Lakrissa’s shoulder. “Everything, Krissa! Everything’s wrong!”

After a moment, Alfira felt Lakrissa pull her into a hug. “Oh, Alfie…sweetheart…here, come on…”

Alfira pressed her lips to Lakrissa’s forehead and laced their fingers together. For a long while, she was silent, listening to the distant sounds of the farmers’ market coming to life. Despite the chilly spring air, she basked in the growing warmth of the sun, which twinkled off the last sheets of ice at their feet. And then she saw it: shoots of green and white pushing up through the snow. All around them, the first flowers of the season defied the slurry of frozen mud.

Alfira pointed out the clusters of delicate, bell-shaped buds. “Do you know what those are?”

“Mmm, ‘fraid not,” Lakrissa murmured.

“They’re called snowdrops,” Alfira said with a hint of reverence in her voice. “They’re the first flowers to bloom in spring, when it’s still cold and icy. They’re a sign of the end of hard times. Renewal of hope. A little triumph over a hard winter.”

She felt Lakrissa shift and sit up to view the flowers properly. “Pretty,” she said simply. “Like you.”

- trauma triggers
- passing of 20 y/o family cat
- feeling unsafe where I live due to private circumstances (turned police case, I'm safe dw)
- new medication (old one didn't do shit)
- some other irl stressful stuff
