Things that have happened today.
1. I shrieked, "Ooh! A redheaded woodpecker!" And then turned around to see if someone else had said that because what the fuck?
2. I got really excited when I saw what I *think* was a Goldfinch and realized it was definitely me in #1.
So that's it. I'm old now.

Dear consultant friends,
If you need 5-10 clients a year, you don't need millions of followers.
So why are you following content advice designed for creators with a different business model?
Business model drives content strategy.

I think I might break up with Editorial Mission Statements after a 20+-year love affair...
I support them in theory now, but I'm really digging the mindset shift that comes from answering questions rather than "demonstrating expertise".
Thoughts? #marketingsky?

Anyone else watch a webinar and double check that your camera is still off 73 times?
Like, am I worried it's just going to spontaneously turn on??

Most thought leadership sucks because it's poorly disguised sales material.
In journalism, there's a wall between editorial and advertising.
Editorial serves the reader.
Advertising serves the business.
What if you thought of your thought leadership the way an editor thinks about feature pieces?

Ever written a LinkedIn post and given yourself the ick?
The cringe isn't random - it's your authenticity alarm going off.
Don't write how you think an "expert" should sound.
Idk about you, but I think a lot of B2B social content feels like a sales pitch in cheap suit.
Don't spread the ick!

Content land is obsessed with attention. After all, this is the attention economy. But for high-ticket B2B services, trust is your actual currency.
You don't need a million eyeballs. You need the right eyeballs to trust you enough to write a big check.
Different game, different rules.

I don't think 20-something me would have believed I'd spend 3 whole minutes finding the right emoji to use in professional correspondence.
