Question for the crowd:

Why is it that autocorrect can make the most aggressive and frustrating corrections on so many words but not do shit about correcting my fat fingered typing of YIU for YOU?

The amazing RUTH ASAWA retrospective at @moma.bsky.social has closed. I loved it so much I went twice.

What joy it was to be in room after room of her generous work. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Glad this story is getting told. Metro Surge is an economic blockade against the entire metro and state.
Twin Cities home builders are falling behind schedule as the federal immigration crackdown in Minnesota has fueled a shortage of roofing, drywall and other construction workers, according to developers and real estate agents.
Twin Cities immigration crackdown delays home construction, slows real estate market
As immigrant workers move or stay home, a shortage of workers in the trades also is affecting the existing home market and rental owners.

We each can do our part by following the advice of the Venerable Monks to start the day writing down this statement:

"Today is going to be my peaceful day."

❤️
“This is our contribution—not to force peace upon the world, but help nurture it, one awakened heart at a time.” -from the blog post on The Walk for Peace

From the department of I Totally Forgot I Made It: I made this "ad" after a comics show where I was constantly being mistaken for my bff @glynnisfawkes.bsky.social by men. I might have been a little mad. (it still happens)

Taking a break between several hard things to start preparing for one exciting & good thing: I have a show at The Center for Cartoon Studies at the end of the month. Drawing is faith in action. 🌈

Went to MoMA today and happened upon a very familiar Brancusi sculpture—Helen Hokinson drew it for The New Yorker! I almost jumped! 💘✨

also this tribute to the compassionately sororal eye of Helen Hokinson by @summerpierre.bsky.social is really delightful

my parents had a few @newyorker.com cartoon Treasuries lying around so I sort of grew up with Helen and Gahan rather than Kirby & Lee

A delightful cartoon from @summerpierre.bsky.social:
Summer Pierre on Helen Hokinson
Her version of the middle-aged matron was a gentle innocent who faced the world with an unself-conscious enthusiasm.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but here goes:
In high school my art teacher told me I didn’t know how to draw because cartooning wasn’t real art.
I have wanted to be in The New Yorker Magazine since I was 19. I’m 53 and this happened yesterday:

Loving parents and other caregivers of trans kids fighting for our kids’ lives. Listen to the people impacted, not the loud, ignorant voices out to deny healthcare that doesn’t affect you.

(Altho denying healthcare that is well-researched and supported by specialists in the field WILL affect you)

4 years ago my 12 year old daughter, newly vaccinated, healthy and energetic got the Omicron wave of COVID and has never fully recovered. For some, Long COVID is a long but temporary experience, for us it is ongoing. She turns 16 in 2 weeks. We are still here and still learning.

Years ago, after doing some deep searching for vintage children's book art, I found a collector who had acquired most of the original artwork of J. P. Miller's The Brave Little Tailor, a LGB from 1953. Fantastic work. Here's the cover.

The original art is in the following 🧵...
