Hello #PortfolioDay

I’m Sarah, a Canadian artist drawing gryphons, birds and creatures in traditional media. Mostly sketches, some ink, rarely color. Birder, naturalist, photographer, too many hobbies. Most art happens in October.

Cute! The feathers look so soft and fluffy.

Same. The original design has a bright yellow/orange tip on the tail, which I might have to try to bring back in another attempt.

Hahaha, that is a hilarious image. Might have to draw it one of these other nights I'm tired.

Amazing shot and experience! Have you read 'Owls of the Eastern Ice'? Cool story about a guy studying these owls in Russia.

A quick one tonight.

Gryphons look pretty strange in heraldry, maybe I will look up some examples and try a more accurate version. Bonus Black-bellied Plover speed sketch.

Thanks :) It was fun to work with such bright colors.

I would like to say SunCat is a sensible looking creature, but no, teenage me designed a colorful cat-like fursona with bright digital gradients. And here you have a rough attempt at SunCat in gryphon form. She looks uncharacteristically uncertain, maybe it is my coloring attempt.

Today's gryphon is exploring the first page of a whole new sketchbook!

Northern Harrier gryphon on the last page of my sketchbook! I've been drawing in this book for two years. Wonder how long it will take to fill the next one?

Circular gryphon is circular-ish.

Brush pen was really overflowing tonight. Causes some fuzzy bleeding on this paper.

A gryphon-like creature.

I'm so glad you are enjoying them! It helps to have people following along. I drew 100 of them last time I took on the challenge. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago, some of those are a little cringy now.

A very quick, rough, little sketch tonight. Still drawing daily gryphons, up to 46 consecutive days now.

My focus here is art, but this is the inspiration for the gryphon yesterday. I usually cringe when comparing my drawings to the photos they are based on, seeing all the faults, so this is a lucky inside look.

Thanks! It was tough to come up with that pose and find a reference for roughly what I wanted.

Thank you. The eagle was really stunning, I just had to make it into a gryphon.

Thanks!

We were lucky to see... well... ID later in my photos, a Martial Eagle soaring up high in South Africa. We got much better views at the raptor rehab. A very impressive bird.

lol, same when I do stage makeup for theatre. Do a double-take whenever I see my face.

Threat posture. Not a lot of things scare gryphons, but sometimes they get startled.
