As an author, it's definitely important to read really good books. Novels that take your breath away, that push your understanding of what the written word can do.
But I'd argue it's just as important to read the okay ones, the ones where you can actually point to the things you don't like about it
I know both Twilights are neat people, but I like to think Sci-Twi forgets to take care of her hair more than Princess Twi does because the princess has to make appearances and look neat and pretty for stuff
