My ride today, a 4 year old TEP33A diesel locomotive. I'm travelling in third class (platskart) from Almaty-2 to Almaty-1, a fact that the staff found absolutely hilarious for some reason! 😃

An old Soviet carriage, previously used on the Latvijas Expresis from Riga to Moscow.
For some reason, there is also a modern Chinese-built carriage delivered new to Kazakhstan, which also received the Latvijas Expresis livery, despite never having been near Latvia. 🤣

A late evening flight on one of Qatar Airways' A320 narrowbody jets, I'm glad the flight is only four hours, as the comfort level on here isn't as good as most of their fleet.
Arrival at a freezing cold Almaty at 01:25, I wish this part of the world had better flight times... 😭

On to the next adventure with Qatar Airways, boarding the Boeing 787-8 'Binliner' for a flight to Doha, before connecting onto another country that is MUCH colder. 😅

Zugló Station, not far from Central Budapest. Though with the station looking like it does, it's almost hard to believe that it's a major stop for long-distance and international trains in an EU capital! 🤔

Always nice to catch a few MÁV 431 locos when in Budapest, the first of these dates back to 1963, making them a veteran design, and one that is now on its way out as reliability continues to falter. 😁

Sad to hear about EU07-052 suffering a major crack, unfortunately that could be the end for this 57 year old locomotive. Here are a few pictures of the mighty machine in better times. 🙏

NEW VIDEO! A brutal winter journey through Poland, aboard one of PKP Intercity's oldest long-distance trains. I'll be travelling in a cosy First Class compartment, as the train battles through intense cold conditions on the way to Kraków.

After a pleasant day in Warsaw, it's time to head to Kraków on the Pendolino, this time I'm in a compartment. The 2.5hr journey cost me under £20, which I think is a bargain!

Heading north of Warsaw, and accelerating up to 200km/h. This route is the first #RegioJet service to reach this speed, so it's a pretty big deal! And I'm pleased to confirm these old carriages provide a silky smooth ride, even at 200km/h! 😁

Another ride with #RegioJet, this time heading all the way to Gdynia in a comfortable compartment. I don't like early starts, but you really can't beat the feeling of a cosy warm compartment as the sun begins to rise. 🥰

Time for a late lunch in the WARS @diningcar.at, as we pass through the GZM region. I've gone for a classic pierogi and a beer, of course that's a combo best enjoyed with a view of a Class 66! 😋

Time to head to Poland aboard the EC Galicja service to Kraków, riding behind EU44-007! I've got a comfortable seat in a compartment for the 7 hour ride today, costing just €30. 😁
