Testing out some nice origami texture prints today. While the initial cardboard mounting had a bit of flex, the concept works pretty well. This opens up possibilities for my modular panels to mix with printed art to bring out the characters to life.

This is the Ultimate Modular Display in the making. It takes a lot of trial and error to get the engineering right, but it is worth it for a precious collection. Watch the difference between the early versions and the new refined fit. It's a work in progress, but the pieces are coming together.

I have spent a lot of time over the last couple of days obsessing over these measurements and testing different versions. I am looking at fractions of a millimeter to make sure the fit is perfect and the supports are solid. These tiny refinements are what make a display feel premium.

Every collector knows that annoying feeling when a card just won't stay put. You get a great piece like this Pop Mart The Monster Ma.K. and then the card flops around. It is a small detail, but it really changes the look of the shelf.

A turnaround comparison of the Batman Shadow 'DC x Sonic' 5" & 2.5" figures, released by Jakks Pacific, and a regular figurine of them.

Testing out a card holder plate on my modular display. The card holder has a small slip and a backing board that can hold a card. You can also make your own background graphics to show off your Labubu or other blind box characters.

3D printed the black tiles to form a checked surface plate. Having these smaller tiles gives options to mix and match the colours to the character design theme.

A quick update, did a print test of the rails, basically this can be slotted into any of the side base plates. Unfortunately there are a few stringing areas, and I will have to go back into Blender to make more refinements.

Thanks, oh yes Bubblegum Crisis and Macross they're super cool. I'm glad to hear that vibe is coming through.

Started 3D modelling surface plates and rails to fit onto my modular display system. Looking for that sci-fi mecha vibe. Inspired by so many cool mechanical designs like Gundam, Akira, Patlabor... I'm sure there are plenty more. What are your favourite designs?

Here is a 360 turntable look of the modular display unit with the Gundam models on the floating platform.

Stacked up the modular display with the pieces I’ve 3D printed! Feel like modelling some cool props to attach to the plates and make it look even super cool. For now, here is a floating platform so you can get a 360 view of these Gundam models.

Testing out my modular display. A few refinements but quite happy with it. Various ways to connect pieces together or swap the surface plates for a different theme so you can show your Labubu, Skullpanda, Molly or any of your toy collections with joy. 😁

I’m working on optimising my 3D prints and designing custom bridging layer supports to shave down print times. The goal: a thinner base plate that doesn't sacrifice strength. Right now, the base part takes 57 min to print... time to get that number down! 🤞

Roughly setting up my modular parts in Blender to see what visually works.

Also tried out the idea of adding fence elements to the front modular slot. This help tells of the story or environment as I develop the display set. It's a bit flimsy, one of them snapped off so that's what it is for now.

I've added pins on the wall to hang the accessory and card that came with this Pop Mart blind box. Don't know how the brick pins manage to hold. The support area is small but had to do it this way so I could keep that grainy texture.

Just printed the casing for Bambu Lab CyberBrick Time-Lapse Hardware for my A1 printer. Don't know if I really need this but I grab it anyway.

When I created the plate with the holes referenced from IKEA's Skadis board. I was after the sci-fi look. But what if I actually use it as a peg board too. 😅 It could hang or hold accessories. As in the example of this setup of The Monsters Ma.K. Bryophytes helmet or card. 🤔

I got my Bambu Lab A1 printer two weeks ago, really happy with it and had no issues. I've done a fair amount of test prints for my project and will need to stock up on more PLA Matte filament colours soon. If I had the budget, I wish I could get every colour available for my project! 😅

This way I can be more flexible when I come to printing different colours and the added depth looks much better.
January 18, 2026 at 9:17 AM
My first attempt at printing the tile plate looked too flat and if I wanted to print a checked colour, this would have significantly taken more time and filament waste. So the solution I came up with is to print individual smaller tile pieces that snap onto a thin plate.

Test printed these surface plates that connects to my modular base. Having this as a separate part to the base makes it easy to change the look of the platform. A few little refinement but I'm really liking the ripple and the one with the holes.

I've set it up so the measurements and grid guide is easier to work with. Apart from a few typology challenges, so far I'm managing it quite well with all the tolerance and making the constant revisions.

I had thought about learning a CAD program to build my physical modular project but then again it would have taken me time to master it to create specifically what I had in mind. So to make it all happen I stuck with Blender, it's the 3D app I know best.
