Finally caught up with the black redstart on Cardiff Bay barrage and enjoyed the spectacle of a large flock of cormorants (c.50) hunting fish in the middle of the Bay. Also Chiffchaff at the end of the Tiger Yard promontory. #BirdingWales

A very special end to a lovely holiday as a #glossyibis flew straight past me at #NWT #Cley Marshes reserve whilst I saw in the middle of the three central hides. It came in low from the west and was heading SE towards Pat's Pool when it was lost from view. #Norfolkbirding

You only live twite! A beach walk from #Cley to #Salthouse and back was rewarded with a small, but confiding flock of #Twite. Cherries on a cake that included hundreds more geese (DBB are quickly becoming my faves), and a barn owl first thing. #norfolkbirding

A very wet afternoon, but an equally warm welcome at #CleyMarshes #NWT. 23 sp. seen with water pipit on Simmond's scrape the star. Incredible, close-up and prolonged views of little egret, common snipe, and water rail from Bishop's hide were also highlights. #WildlifeTrust #Norfolkbirding

Wonderful start to our first day in #Cley, with the sight of hundreds of geese squeaking like giant feathered balloons through the sky. #winter #geese

Pretty good start to a week in Norfolk when an Eastern Black Redstart flew into a bush next to me at the seafront in Sheringham 🤯 (epic binoco-scoped photo my own) #norfolkbirding

Rather terrifying report from DEFRA suggests a high likelihood that 'every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse', with associated risks to food supplies. #ecosystemcollapse #biodiversity

Perhaps a bit early to claim wildlife sighting of 2026, but it's going to take something special to beat this Jaguar Shark...😉 #WesAnderson @designmuseum.bsky.social #jaguarshark #thelifeaquatic

The BBC have told everyone to bring their guinea pigs indoors during #StormGoretti. Imagine my surprise - until this point I wasn't aware that I even had any! Currently mustering a search party... #guineapigs

A frosty cycle through the Vale was rewarded with the beautiful bubbling sounds of lapwing. It's been a few years since I saw them in these numbers, so it was a very welcome sight. About 300 were in stubble fields near Dyffryn along with 6 golden plover, and 10+ stock doves. #birdingwales

Quite how shore nets like these are legal is beyond me. Two turnstones were trapped this morning at Rhos Point. I untangled both and they were able to fly off unharmed before being drowned by the rising tide.

A brisk walk to Rhos Point to try out my birthday binoculars was rewarded with a raft of 10 eider ducks floating east, 15 ringed plovers, c.5 turnstones, a couple of redshanks, and too many oystercatchers to count. #birdingwales

Another day, another #beachclean. On the short walk from #Penarth pier to the barrage I filled three bin bags. Plastic drink bottles, beer cans, and takeaway drink lids were the most common items. Time for a deposit return scheme? #takeyourrubbishhome @keepbritaintidy.bsky.social #singleuseplastic

Lovely morning walk to litter pick along Penarth shore. 2 curlew, 25+ oyks, 10+ turnstone, 3 rockits and a couple of cormorants seen. On the flip side, multiple drink cans & tobacco pouches left in piles with fishing detritus. 3 bin bags filled. #birdingwales #beachclean #keepbritaintidy #takeithome

Thought-provoking article on the government's derisory approach to planning and biodiversity protection. Lapwing and Kestrel have streets in their name on land that once supported both species near me. Sadly I suspect most residents rarely see either of them now. www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happen...

There were so many #fungi in #Casehill woods today that there wasn't #mushroom for anything else! 😄 35 species seen. My personal favourite was a delicate coral #fungus.
