A majestic Dolomite mountain massif near Alta Badia glows in the light of sunset. The rugged cliffs are bathed in a deep orange radiance, while the lower slopes remain cool and shadowed under a layer of snow and dark forest. The sky above fades from soft blue to dusk, enhancing the mountain’s luminous glow - a breathtaking alpine moment suspended between day and night.

Drangajökull – the only glacier in Iceland below 1,000 m and the only one not retreating. It calves into the fjord Kaldalón – literally “cold lagoon” a quiet, magical place in the Westfjords.

In ancient Rome, night pressed heavily on the city’s newly built walls. Numa Pompilius, rising to the throne after the turbulent reign of Romulus, carried an aura of mystery and quiet wisdom. But whispers ran through Rome about his secret nightly excursions. Was their king consulting the gods?
As darkness cloaked the countryside, Numa slipped away to the shadowy grove outside the city, near the sacred spring of Egeria. Only moonlight pierced the branches as he waited, breath held, for what most called mere superstition.
Suddenly, the waters shimmered and before him appeared Egeria, the enigmatic nymph whose eyes seemed to hold the fate of Rome itself.
Under the watchful canopy, Egeria revealed rituals and laws more powerful than any sword. She whispered prophecies, demanded offerings, and, with unearthly grace, told Numa of the twelve Ancilia, mystical bronze shields that would protect Rome from its enemies.
Some say she spoke in riddles, testing the king’s resolve; others claimed her tears foretold disaster. On each visit, Numa risked all for wisdom, challenged by omens, sacred tasks, and the specter of betrayal should his secrets be revealed.
Egeria’s counsel brought peace and order, but as Rome prospered, a chilling price was paid. When Numa died, the sorrowful nymph vanished into her spring, her grief so deep that every ripple echoed loss.
Romans said the water ran sweeter yet colder ever since, a place where wishes and warnings entwine. Writers and poets, for centuries, have visited that grove, hoping for a glimpse of the mysterious nymph who guided a king and shaped an empire.
