We recently helped this swan, trapped between chained shut locks gates on a disused Canal. As swans require a long stretch to take to flight, the bird wouldn’t have been able to get out the lock without assistance. The bird was rescued, and immediately released.

We were contacted out of concern for this swan on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, reported with injuries to her head. Whilst the bird showed disinterest in feeding and initially kept out of reach of rescue, our volunteers persevered until the animal was safely captured.

It’s that time of year when we are constantly called to crash landed swans - mostly inexperienced youngsters who are flying the territories of their parents for the first time - who end up in some unusual locations!
