I don't know if I'll be any good at it, but I really want to move from instructional aide to elementary school teacher next year. I'm learning so much as an aide and just had the privilege of sitting in on/contributing to parent-teacher conferences.

The kids are all right as are the parents.

But they have plenty of time to weigh in on a country song they have not even heard.

I wasn't going to watch the Super Bowl or its halftime show, but now I'm 100000% in.

Historians AND experts??????

Sorry, friends, you are JUST historians AND NOT experts.
Screen shot reads: Trump's use of National Guard may have lasting impact on cities and troops. Historians and experts say the administration's efforts to deploy National Guard members across the country could affect troop readiness, training and morale.

Oooooo. My cooperative building gardeners might be mad if I pick them all, though!

Timeline cleanse. Beauty berries, native to DC.
Clusters of small magenta berries nestle against green leaves with droplets of water.

In my former profession (Professor of History), I had a handful of colleagues who had taught in K-12. It doesn't seem to happen the other way around. I can't be the only person who acted on the I-want-to-teach-them-earlier impulse???

Thinking about all the money spent to militarize DC as the ceiling falls in our kindergarten classroom’s bathroom. (Acoustic tiles and water. No one was hurt.)

I work in an elementary school but am not eligible for a COVID vaccination.

Standing in a bathroom with a teacher and 21 kindergartners during a lockdown drill is heartbreaking. My job is to keep it together for them, but I looked at their sweet small faces and it was all I could do not to sob.

I just checked out Damaris Phillips’s vegetarian cookbook from @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social. It looks great but I can also guarantee you she’s not making beet and feta burgers while wearing this white blouse!
A white woman with long blonde hair wears a white blouse with blue embroidery at the shoulders. She smiles down at a glass bowl while she pours something into the red ingredients at the bottom of the bowl.

This afternoon, I lead kindergartners through a lockdown drill. We are so broken.

I am back to walking Muffin before the sun comes up. I do love me a rosy-fingered dawn, though.
Clouds and trees overlay a lavender sky.

It really is. This is such a beautiful, diverse, culturally-rich city but goons with guns hired by our government are bringing the violence every day. I recently saw them chase a Brown teenager (on foot) through traffic while women waiting for a bus quietly wept.

I am an aide in a kindergarten classroom and we're having our first lockdown drill tomorrow afternoon. I've been thinking a lot about this.

Now this is par for the course in D.C., too.
