. @sweepingthenation.bsky.social put on a great gig at Duffy's Bar in Leicester last night headlined by @fortitudevalley.bsky.social with Virginia's Wolves & the Marlinas(pictured) .

The latter were great openers. I particularly liked the singer's voice.

Was actually looking for something else in a issue from around the same time, which I didn't find.

Select magazine, July 1999. Let's not be hasty, it could be any rock-obsessed twins from Wakefield called Ryan and Gary.

(Unless they mention it in a podcast this isn't documented anywhere online by the way, it's even been missed by that Select scans site)
A Select magazine article about an episode of ITV 9.25am talkathon Trisha (which they misspell in the article) about obsessive music fans, including two eighteen year olds dressed as Marilyn Manson and Kurt Cobain who are Ryan and Gary Jarman later of the Cribs. This isn't mentioned anywhere online, by the way.

Also, and I might have missed evidence but, it's interesting how everybody knows Andrew Harrison coined the term in The Word but nobody seems to have actually found where or when.

Feels a bit weird how landfill indie has recently been subsumed into the spuriousness of and accordingly re-promoted as 'indie sleaze' because they were both sort of mid-00s things with guitars.

Not at this end now, I forgot to make the playlist public last night so it's possible you saw it before I remembered.

I first saw and fell for Panic Shack in 2019 on their third gig when they didn't have enough of their own songs for a half hour set. Five and a bit more than a half years later their debut album is number 11 in the midweeks. Something feels quite weird about that.
Panic Shack in repose. Photo by me. There is also one of me with them where I look like their dad, which is never being made widely public.
