ICYMI, Kalen Ryden (#22) announced today that he will be retiring at the conclusion of the ‘25 season. I have to admit that all season I’ve been considering the possibility that he might retire, but I was still somehow not fully prepared for the reality of the news when it dropped.

Over the past week, there have been several important changes regarding The Curse.

Early in the week, our treasurer/secretary, Matt, stepped down due to feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the role. His contributions have been greatly appreciated, and we fully support his decision.

A few days later, a troubling Reddit post surfaced alleging sexual assault by a member of Curse leadership. That individual has since resigned and has been suspended from all Curse activities for the remainder of the year.

For context, Curse leadership this year has consisted of just three people handling all responsibilities. With these recent changes, that leaves only me. After much thought, I have decided to step down as well. This is not the role I envisioned, and I believe it is best to make space for new leadership.

Matt and I will work together to identify people to carry the group forward. In the meantime, all Curse activities will be put on hold.

The club still has load of quality. Players like Tomas Pondeca and newly acquired Valentin Noël are going to have to step up as the team makes a push towards playoff qualification in the final 3rd of the season.

And then we've have some kind of reorganization going on in the goal keeping side of things with Shakes getting two starts over Tabakis (see how I avoided the shake-up pun). And this past match, Maples got a second yellow, so we won't be seeing him this weekend.

This is a painful transfer for NMU due to the current state of things. It's great for Fernando though.

What I mean by painful is this: So far this this season we've lost Daniel Bruce (Season ending injury), Gaines (traded for an international slot), Herbert(transferred for a fee).
