The Slayer continued with a light shrug, “It’s either the easy way, or the fun way.” Despite the expressionless helmet concealing the Slayer’s face, Hoseok could imagine his wicked grin. “I won’t let you hurt him again,” Hoseok said, gripping the blaster and widening his stance. The Slayer tilted his head like a curious dog. A snort crackled over the voice modulator then pitched up into a high giggle, tinny from the mechanical filter. Hoseok’s blood ran cold. “The fun way it is.” The Slayer’s hand was a blur, drawing his blaster with supernatural speed. Faster than Hoseok could pull the trigger, his own blaster was sent flying through the air with a single disarming shot. The Slayer clicked his tongue, wagging the blaster back and forth, like a scolding finger. “And here I thought you’d put up a good fight.” In one swift motion, Hoseok pulled the shotgun out from beneath his coat, released the safety, and aimed down the barrel. The Slayer just barely dodged the wide plasma burst, rolling to the side and staggering back to his feet with a small stumble forward. A horrible, drunken laugh erupted behind the helmet. “Okay, that was a nice surprise,” the Slayer said, giddy. He seemed completely unfazed by the sound of the shotgun recharging while it was pointed at his chest. What was wrong with him, Hoseok wondered, feeling off balance despite having the upper hand. It was more than a predator playing with its food. The Slayer was acting irrationally and leaving himself wide open.
