Recovering cyberutopian. LIKES: MUSIC (I play flutes, 7-string nylon guitar, and sing dreadfully); also LANGUAGES (En, Fr, Cat, Es) and the Great Outdoors - as long as it's not raining. DISLIKES: Mud

Not sure if they are still active, but Paris has had quite a history of covert underground operations - culminating in the astonishing story of the Pantheon clock restoration. A compelling read !

Yes, those really are tram tracks, and yes the red van really is parked that close. I'm sure it will end well 🤔

Our tiny little post office in rural France has a sign saying that they no longer ship parcels to the US. Moronic actions have global reach.

I fear so. More sensible might be to keep him on the bench until the 2nd half, and then bring him on only if needed?

We're expecting rain all week, so we'll no doubt spend hours in the shop. Will look out for the salad servers!

Chucking it down with rain here in the Santuari de Lluc, Mallorca. Time to buy a 'blauet' in the tourist shop? No these are not Argentinian footballers, they're baby choirboys from the local escolania. Not to be confused with the other kind of 'blauet', a kingfisher 🤔

I suppose the Onion wrestles with these problems every day. Truth keeps catching up with fiction 🤔

[I just read it and thought "yeah, that sounds about right"] 🙁

Off to Mallorca for a week with family. The joys of Schengen: driving from a French village straight on to a ferry in Barcelona port. No customs, and (so far) no passport checks. Lots of boats here, but we think we'll take this cute little jobbie with Balearia written on it.

Extraordinary that anyone other than Trump himself would consider him a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. But politics is politics - so now they need to come up with a special prize, just for him. I propose the "Tresleiv award" 🤔

It's obviously going to be a sushi conveyor belt. It's just not quite finished 🤔

Nice supporting words about the pressures on Lamine Yamal to play before he's fully fit - from Marc Cucurella, or to give him his full name: "Cu-cu-cu-cu-rella, se come una paella" 🙂

Sempre m'ha agradat aquesta versió de "I don't want to spoil the party" dels Beatles - una altra col·laboració de pare i filla! Es d'una altra època, per descomptat.

We spent 3 weeks there, did a music course, played in some bars, and travelled around the island a bit. We definitely romanticise it! There's a huge gulf in wealth between visitors and locals, different currencies, different treatment, lots of informal prostitution. Not good - but I love the place!

If I'm doing the arithmetic correctly, it only leaves ~8 waking hours? Less getting showered, dressed and travelling to/from work, so maybe 6-7 hours? Not sure that's going to work for everyone 🤔

Quite! Both really unique players whose methods don't seem to have been copied by others. I'll especially miss Jordi Alba's lung-bursting, speculative sprints into space, repeated 10-20 times a game, often for nothing! I read he had a secret: sleep 12-13 hours a night, then nap for 2-4 hours more 🤔
From the Guardian's guide to the Euros, 2016:
<<A fundamental part of the side, tireless and relentless, providing a wide attacking outlet from the back. He was released from the Barcelona youth system in 2005 and moved from midfield into defence at Valencia. Barça re-signed him in 2012 for €14m, and he now has a €150m buyout clause. Fast, tetchy and confrontational on the pitch, off it he relaxes by playing chess (“it makes you think”), clothes-shopping, listening to flamenco music and sleeping “for 12 to 13 hours at night. Then I nap for two, three or four hours more. It’s one of the keys to my strength.”>>
