Yeah, it’s not clear when using it. If I recall correctly (it’s been a few months since I used it) if you select maintain weight and then picked a higher weight it adjusted calories for you. Tho I can’t recall 100% as my goal was mainly swap fat for muscle. So maintain worked well enough

I ended up liking LoseIt. Partly cause I have a life time sub to it, but it also lets me enter in my own data based on what I want to achieve. So while not perfect it worked well enough.
