Well this is a first. My 2004 ASR article with Nicola Beisel on abortion in the 19th century was cited in the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court decision striking down the state's 1849 abortion ban!

Today would have been #MichaelBurawoy's 78th birthday. I know all of us who loved him miss him very, very much. Ana Villarreal took this photo of him, which I love (as do many others). I'm so glad she did and that she shares it with us all.

Abortion bans kill women. Abortion bans torture women. Abortion bans are about control, power & attempt to thwart the mind blowing success of women (particularly women of color) who excel at everything they do. If you weren’t a threat they’d just ignore you.
If your "Poverty Initiative" pretends some of the key variables linked to poverty in the US and around the world—lack of access to birth control and reproductive health care—don't exist or matter, it isn't really a poverty initiative at all.

You have to have a malignant loathing of women to pass an abortion ban. It is torture of women and makes pregnancy less safe for everyone.
I spoke to a South Carolina woman today who is miscarrying - her fetus has no heartbeat - but the state's ban is preventing doctors from taking action.
She has to walk around with a dead fetus for another week so she can get a FOURTH ultrasound.
