Dancer badge with a sparkly KPOP Demon Hunters twist! In preparation, I may or may not have stayed up perfecting my origami throwing star skills last night, which I might deeply regret teaching to a bunch of enthusiastic 8- and 9-year-olds later today.
Since I can’t share any of the top-secret knitting happening behind the scenes (2 new books in the works!), here’s a little peek into my non-knitting world instead! Did you know I’m a Girl Scout co-leader? Today our Brownies are earning their
forming an infinite, seamless loop, with no visible wrong side. This makes a delightfully squishy fabric that sits comfortably around your neck for those chilly autumn days.

the stranded colorwork knits up on US 7 (4.5mm) in Primo Worsted using 2 hanks of each color. Begun with a provisional or temporary cast on, simple stripes separate bow sections that dance across the needles. The stitches are not bound off, but grafted together,
I long for the intense orange of the Sugar Maples and the vivid golden yellow of the Sumac. With fall memories from both past and present in mind, I designed the Harvest Ribbons Cowl. With a jaunty bow motif checkerboarding in two spectacular shades from @pluckyknitter,
Autumn is my favorite time of year. Growing up in New England, where the leaves change and the landscape turns into a riot of color, I always looked forward to it. Living now in Northern Virginia, the leaves change color here, but not with the vivid spectrum of my childhood up north.
A little taekwondo knitting… 🥋 🧶
Block it like it’s hot. 🔥
It was fun to knit and watch the A-frame slowly appear, surrounded by woods and stars. Pattern link is in bio, and TanisKnits newsletter subscribers have a coupon code in your inbox. Yarn for the Laurel Island Cowl can be found through @row_house. 🌲
My stranded colorwork cowl is based on a cabin & designed to be the workshop project for a retreat there a few weeks ago with @row_house. Latvian braids bookend the colorwork, and the whole thing is knit up using 1 skein of each color on US 5 and 7 needles in @sinceresheep Luminous DK.
In the 1930s, the BSA owned what was West Island, & it was used for summer camp. In the 1960’s the island was sold, & cabins were built. In the early 2000s, the island was sold again, renamed Laurel Island as a nod to the mountain laurel that grows there, & is now privately owned & rented out.
Introducing the Laurel Island Cowl!
Laurel Island is a small, privately owned island on Lake Pocotopaug. With only 5 cabins (one of them an A-frame) surrounding the exterior of the island, this tiny island is a small slice of heaven.
Being with students who struggle with color choice, students who know exactly what they want, and my “Bob Ross students,” (happy little accidents) is the best way to spend a Friday night. Brava, students! So proud of your creativity! 💜❤️🩷🧡💛💚🩵💙
I only teach ice dyeing once a year for @knittersdayout in PA. It’s one of my favorite classes to teach because the result is always astounding. Watching the yarn go from undyed, to dyed, to dry, to reskeined and ready to knit with is nothing short of magic.
Let Camp-Knit-Away on Laurel Island, CT with @row_house commence! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the students, but in the meantime, there’s knitting to be done. I can already tell this is going to be an amazing weekend! 🏝️ 🧶
For my MIL’s birthday, I made a fan brooch complete with lucky jade & red to symbolize joy, prosperity, and success. This one was tricky with the support structure & attached hanging chain. She doesn’t wear much bling, but I’m hoping this will bring some sparkle to her special day! 🎂
Kits for the Candleberry shawl can be found at @queencityyarn , with the pattern link in profile. TanisKnits newsletter subscribers have a coupon code in their inbox. 💜💚💛🩷🩵
Worked flat, this simple striped shawl is all knits and purls with two simple cabled rows in each 20-row rep. With color changes every 2 reps, this is a perfect on-the-go project. It uses almost all the yardage. The pattern is both written out & fully charted.
When @queencityyarn asked me if I was interested in picking a color for in her lovely Biddleville DK), I simply couldn’t stop at just one! After settling on 6 gorgeous colors, I knew I needed a simple cable design to really show off this beautiful array.
Introducing a new shawl packed with color without any stranding, the Candleberry Shawl!

I 🩷 color! I love talking about it, teaching color theory, & if you’ve taken a stranded colorwork class with me, know that I’m always trying to figure out ways to get as much color into a project as possible.
Mark your calendars: April 28–May 7, 2027 and join me for an unforgettable journey filled with breathtaking landscapes, vibrant colorwork, cultural exploration, and plenty of knitting magic!
Ready for the adventure of a lifetime? The interest form is waiting for you in my bio! (2/2)
Teaching colorwork in the Shetland Islands has always been my ultimate dream—& it’s finally happening! These islands are the very heart of the technique I love most, & the chance to share my passion for color, pattern, & tradition right where it all began is both humbling & electrifying. (1/2)
My favorite aunt’s birthday is coming up in October, so I dipped my toes into the new-to-me craft of making her a beaded pumpkin brooch. It was tricky, I fumbled a bit, learned a ton, stabbed myself with the needle more than I care to admit, and may have a new obsession. I hope she loves it! 🎃
When you stumble across an amphitheater in the woods, you must simply sit and knit. 🧶 🌲
I always feel sorry for the parents sitting at the orthodontist for the hour long appointments staring at the wall or doom scrolling on their phones. Knitting is a superpower! Hoping to escape sleeve island as the tiny human gets braces today! 🦷
