A part of me feels sad for people who've been duped into thinking that using A.I. is a good idea, and then I remember how indignant they get when someone suggests not using A.I.... It's so baffling for people to have a superiority complex that's built around outsourcing their thinking.

Random drama take nobody expected: I knew that Microsoft Word has supported documents of over 5000 pages for 18 years, since the file format spec is a Word document that big, but I'm still surprised that Google Docs supports a 1000 page document 😸 #iykyk Also, fuck Microsoft and fuck Google.

Yeah, people asking for shoutouts seems so weird, since it basically just makes it one less click to check out someone's channel. It's not like getting a shoutout would significantly impact them in any way, but being weird about it will definitely make people not want to follow them 🤦‍♀️

Way back, before Dark Science, I was reading Hob, and I, a "cis" "straight" "male", thought to myself "But why would she have a crush on a guy? Who'd want to date a guy?" Took me over 10 years after that to start questioning my gender 🤦‍♀️

LOL! BlueSky automatically flagged the preview for the Wikipedia page as "Adult Content". It's a painting from around the 1460's called "The Last Judgement" by Hans Memling. Are the people in the painting consenting to being tortured in Hell? Only BlueSky moderation could possibly decide for them🤦‍♀️

Whenever there are people predicting a date for "the apocalypse", I remember Wikipedia's "List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events", which has over 100 dates in the past, and only a few dates in the next few hundred years. A good read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

I fear that people trusting unreliable black boxes too much is going to cause a lot of harm we might not know about until it's too late to stop. Big tech companies are now promoting A.I. as "trustworthy", after removing ethical oversight from its development, promotion, and use. Vile.

Data mining found confident claims to make about research data, plenty of people who should know better, without enough money or time to run independent experiments, published scientific papers about those claims, and the news told people about these "breakthroughs", except most of them were false.

That's not to say everything fitting that description is "bad" for every use case, but if you give people a black box that makes "confident" assertions, they start to trust it. This is what happened with data mining in scientific research several years ago.

Like how "the cloud" is "Your stuff on someone else's computer", A.I. (beyond just generative) is basically "Software that only works sometimes, but it's designed so that nobody can understand it, so nobody can fix it." or in brief: "Software that only works sometimes, but nobody can fix it."

I feel like I should also admit that I'm a huge hypocrite. I feel guilty about feeling bad and struggling, since I know that other people have it so much worse. I wish I could do more to help people.

Aww, Nikki 🫂 This is why one of the things I most commonly remind people is that there's no need to feel bad about feeling bad. It's at least one weight that can be set aside to focus on the underlying feelings, as hard as it may still be 💜

As I discovered with the music I just uploaded, YouTube also apparently discards something like the first frame of audio, so if you have a big audio hit in the first let's say 33ms (just to be safe for 30fps), you might want to add a frame's worth of silence beforehand to avoid a loud popping sound.

Random YouTube tip: YouTube sometimes cuts off something like the last 1/2 a second of a video, so if you want a gag right at the end, add an extra 0.5s of all black silence afterward, so that the joke won't be cut. Also...
