Conscience campaigns for UK where a taxes are used to nurture peace, not pay for war.
Even as schools, councils, the NHS and social care face harder choices, the government continues to ring-fence billions for weapons and war.

Higher taxes and limited public spending, all while military spending surges ever higher.

There must be a better way.

Tomorrow’s Budget will likely mean tax rises and spending cuts, but not for the military.

Peace is always a choice.

A right to redirect military tax to peacebuilding would give us that choice, and real security.

“We want to pay our taxes , just not for killing.”

The Peace Tax Seven took the UK government to court in 2004–07 for the right to object to military taxation.

Thoreau spent a night in jail for refusing to pay taxes that funded war.

His 1846 act of conscience still inspires War Tax Resisters today.

On #RemembranceDay we remember all victims of war.

The white poppy calls for peace.

So do we. That's why we campaign for taxes for peace, not war.

Never again means never again.

The white poppy asks us to remember the cost of conflict, and to work for peace, not prepare for more war.

This #RemembranceSunday, let’s remember not only those who fought, but those who refused to.

Conscientious objectors remind us that peace begins with conscience, even in how our taxes are spent.

As the Chancellor prepares next month’s Budget, we need a new kind of spending plan: one that builds peace, not war.

Britain should invest in peacebuilding and mediation, not more militarisation.

A ceasefire may stop the bombs, but it doesn’t build peace.

Real peace needs investment in diplomacy, justice and reconciliation, not endless military spending.

Why do people say no to war?

Moral. Political. Religious. Environmental. Humanitarian.

There’s more than one reason to resist.

A ceasefire isn’t peace.

The UK spends £60bn+ a year on the military, but only a fraction on peacebuilding.

Peace needs funding, not just ceasefires.

Conscience campaigns for the right to redirect taxes from war to peace.

Let’s invest in peace, not war.

60 countries still have conscription, with 23 more exploring it.

In Turkey, declaring yourself a CO can mean prison and a “civil death.” In Algeria, COs are treated as deserters.

The UK's plan to buy nuclear-capable F-35A jets breaches the Non Proliferation Treaty. Yet taxpayers are still forced to pay for them.

You can refuse to to fight in war, but not to fund it.

Conscience campaigns to change that.

As Rachel Reeves plans tax rises and more cuts, remember: the UK spends 60x more on the military than on peace.

The UK spent £58.4 billion on the military in 2021-22.

Every pound on weapons is a pound not spent on health, schools, or tackling the climate crisis.

Is this really how we want our taxes used?
