Claire O’Shea of @clairescampaign.bsky.social sadly passed away on the 12th of May this year.

This month would have been her 43rd birthday, making today’s motion being passed even more poignant. Her voice lives on through this campaign, and through the women who continue to speak out.
tccpolicyinsight.bsky.social
The motion calls for:
• A renewed Women’s Health Plan with gynaecological cancer focus
• An urgent review of emergency presentations
• Awareness campaigns with Public Health Wales
• Implementation of Senedd Health Committee recommendations in full

In 2021 alone, 373 women in Wales lost their lives. Insight from Tenovus Cancer Care shows:

📊 Incidence & mortality for gynae cancers in Wales are higher than the UK average.

⏳ Only 34% met the 62-day cancer pathway target in July 2022. Now 3 years later, progress has stalled at 32.4%.

Together, we can create a better future for cancer care in Wales. 💙

Behind every statistic are people facing cancer. 💙

The next Welsh Government has a chance to fix the foundations and create cancer services that are timely, compassionate, and world-class.

We stand ready to work together to make it happen. 🌼

📊 Without good data, we can’t improve care.

We’re calling for robust, routine cancer data — on waiting times, experiences, outcomes, and inequalities — to drive real improvement across Wales. 📈

Patients and the third sector are too often brought in late to decisions.

As a member of the @walescanceralliance.org, we believe patient voices and third sector expertise must be at the heart of designing cancer services from the very start. 🤝

Cancer care is complex. From workforce shortages to rising diagnoses, leadership matters.

👥 Their calling for strong, consistent leadership with clear accountability for cancer services in Wales — so progress is driven, not delayed.

❌ Wales is the only UK nation without a dedicated cancer strategy.
✅ We need a new, long-term cancer strategy that covers prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, living beyond cancer, and end of life.

🗺️ Patients deserve a roadmap for better outcomes, not patchwork plans.

📢 @walescanceralliance.org launches their 2025 manifesto
Fixing the Foundations: Building a better future for cancer care in Wales.

Every year, around 19,500 people are diagnosed with cancer in Wales. We need bold action to deliver timely, compassionate, & world-class care.

What their calling for:

“I feel the pain & loss I have endured could have been prevented if I was just listened to.

We know our bodies. We know when something isn’t right.”

Jessica, thank you for your strength in sharing your story.

Even with a clear smear & internal exam, Jessica was dismissed.

Six months after treatment, her tumour was still there.
She underwent a radical hysterectomy in June 2023.

#GynaeAwarenessMonth

Jessica endured radiotherapy, chemo & brachytherapy.
She lost her chance to have another child, forced into early menopause.

“I feel like I wouldn’t have had to go through any of that if I had been listened to.”
tccpolicyinsight.bsky.social
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month.
Jessica’s story shows why women need to be heard.
She was told it was infections. Then prolapse. Then endometriosis.

Months later, a 6.5cm tumour was found.

Jess's Rule will require GPs in England to "think again" if patients return 3 times with unresolved or worsening symptoms, or without a diagnosis.

We would like to see similar ambition here in Wales, to ensure women are safeguarded and listened to. 💜
