Opening Weekend: Correctable Mistakes, Positive Signs, Predictable Challenges Last week, I said it: I’m largely not going to react to results early in the season. I spent the weekend in the UP camping and largely leaned on listening to the voice of the Bulldogs Brody Keiser before getting a look at the tape last night in the midst of Lions and Tigers coverage.

The Wildcats will return to the road this weekend, heading to Columbus to face former CCHA foe #16 Ohio State.

Weekend Recap: Lakers Freshmen Impress Fresh with new talent, Lake State sought to send a message this weekend, and they did just that. The Lakers found themselves on the road to kick off their 2025-26 campaign, taking a trip out to the east coast to face the Stonehill Skyhawks in Boston. This is the second meeting between these two programs, with the first meeting taking place a year ago in Sault Ste.

What a weekend in Minneapolis, huh? The Huskies earned a split in Dinkytown, putting the CCHA on notice and likely reconfiguring expectations in Houghton of what this team's ceiling is. Let's get into it. One of the things I was looking for early in the year was whether the increased depth of the player pool would make "lesser" teams immediately more competitive.

Michigan Tech, led by new coach Bill Muckalt, will field a team based on changes that the NCAA has made for DI hockey. These changes allow formerly ineligible players from the Canadian Major Junior leagues (and even players with some professional experience) to play college hockey.

We have yet another staff addition to inform our audience about: former Ferris State SID and play-by-play man Harrison Watt. Long-time fans of our publication need no introduction to Harrison. He has rightly established himself as one of the kindest and most knowledgeable voices represented in our league. Harrison’s history with the Bulldogs’ program more than speaks for itself. A Ferris graduate himself, he spent 8 years of his career working in the Athletic Communication department for the Bulldogs, including being the hockey play-by-play man for most of those years.

The time has finally come, Wildcat Hockey is back this weekend. The team starts the season on the road, heading to Amherst to play UMass who was in the NCAA tournament last year. UMass, who last season finished the season with a record of 21-14-5 and upset Minnesota in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champions Western Michigan ended their season 10th in the nation, the Minutemen have 6 double-digit point scorers and their starting goalie returning to their team this season and transfer forward Matthew Wilde will add 32 points to an already high quality scoring team.

Lake State cooled quickly after a hot start last season, but the Lakers have brought in some fresh talent for their 25-26 campaign.

In this episode, Tim Braun and Matt Cavender were joined by incoming freshman forward Teydon Trembecky. With Teydon, the guys discussed Teydon's transition to college life in the United States, the differences in playing hockey in western Canada and the NCAA, and Teydon's experience during the recruiting process.

This off season has not been for the faint of heart in the Keweenaw. Major changes have happened since the relieving of Joe Shawhan as head coach for the Huskies. The dust has settled; however, as the season quickly approaches, the slate is still blank for the team, the athletic department, and the fans going into Head Coach Bill Muckalt’s first season at the helm.
