After the Huskies swept Minnesota State this weekend, I thought it might be fun to track Tech's CCHA progress for the second half of the season. Coming out of the holiday tournaments, the Huskies had 22 points and 7 two game series left on the schedule. After taking 6 points from both Bemidji State and Minnesota State, they've added 12 and now have 34.

Not much change in the rankings this week. As we get further along, it makes sense that things would stabilize, especially if the higher teams win and the lower teams don't. There were still three "changes" this week and an interesting tie for an important spot in the rankings.

After this week’s critical road sweep of BSU, MTU is about to enter the homestretch for the 2025-26 season. So, let’s take a look at what’s happened so far, and what’s left to go before the MacNaughton Cup is awarded and the Mason Cup playoffs start.

Over half the rankings are unchanged this week but those top six teams did move around a bit based largely on head to head results last weekend. Right now the rankings are broken into approximately four tiers with a top 2, a battle for 3/4, another battle for 5/6 and a bottom three.

The Wildcats opened up 2026 by getting swept by their UP rival Lake Superior State by scores of 2-1 on both nights, putting them two games and goals behind in the Cappo Cup Series. The bright side of the weekend is that the Cats had multiple injured players return to the lineup this past weekend, including Nick Ardanaz, Joe Schiller, and most surprisingly Oliver Auyeung-Ashton, who was reported out for the season due to a hip injury.

The Father Cappo Cup is the annual trophy for the winner of the season series between Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan. First introduced in the 1991-1992 season, the trophy is named after Reverend Monsignor Louis C. Cappo.

After seven iterations of the Desert Hockey Classic, Arizona State has decided to take "time off" from hosting the tournament.

After a holiday break, the CCHA Power Rankings are back and with a new #1 team at the top of the rankings. You'll have to wait until the end to find out who unseated Minnesota State. The rankings were pretty static, but top six might as well have been thrown in a blender.

Despite a strong showing on the weekend, the Lakers finished in 4th place for the second time in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face Off tournament, dropping games against #2 Wisconsin and #12 Boston College. While it might not appear like a shock to see the Lakers at the bottom of the barrel, the games were much more of a nail biter than their placement would suggest.

Arizona State has time and time treated visitors to its tournament like an afterthought. The lack of a television broadcast for non-ASU games this year is the last straw.

The positive vibes of the road win at Minnesota State seem ages ago now. The schedule was always going to get brutal. Leading in the third at home on Michigan Tech, the Bulldogs haven't led since the Huskies tied that game. So where do we pull the positive from? Hobie Hedquist's return provided some glimmer of hope that the Bulldogs can draw some wins out of their netminding room which has been a bit of a rotating door.

After a well-fought GLI tournament, the Michigan Tech Huskies find themselves in the desert in January to compete once again in the Desert Hockey Classic hosted by the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Huskies will play the Air Force Falcons while ASU will play the UAA Seawolves, then switch with the winners playing for the title on day two. Day One…

On December 18th, the Wildcats announced that defenseman Olivier Beaulieu and goaltender Max Weilandt will be joining the Wildcats in January due to some long-term injuries to Oliver Auyeung-Ashton, who's out for the season due to a hip injury, Jack Fuller also had a lesser degree hip injury hasn't been able to play in games, and Grayden Daul, who's also out for the season due to an undisclosed injury.
