So, Moderation coming up. And as always, it's "not so bad." Only a few fringe things are at risk. Right? Wrong. The guidelines introduce broad new gray areas. And where gray areas are present enforcer Fiat reigns supreme.

Platforms will use gray areas to promote/punish as is expedient. Always.

"AI systems are built with the same intent — a free compliments machine designed to make people like it so that they’re susceptible to whatever it’s selling.”

Excellent point from the very insightful docseuss.medium.com/copyright-ru... by @docseuss.bsky.social‬ - give it a read, and follow the man.
copyright rules, ai drools, and plagiarism is for suckers who have no soul
Have you ever had a conversation with someone over a topic you know a great deal about, but the person you’re talking to definitely…

idk how to break it to you but you gotta protect NSFW content. like you gotta. and i dont just mean the "ohhhh, bodies are art and gorgeous, isn't the human form wonderful" stuff, even though that is true. I also mean the weird stuff. 1/7

I kind of liked rainbow capitalism—not for the thin, performative allyship but as an indicator of the zeitgeist. It used to be "good for business" to tolerate "teh gays" and make overtures. Now, it's not. Sad to see, but good to know, I guess.

Just linked up rustls and bb8-postgres a few days ago. You wouldn't expect how much you learn doing a bit of drudgework, and how many interesting insights are just a little bit beside the beaten path :D Good times

The latest #philosophytube has me really wondering how Beethoven will tie into the topic - is it just "German Composer that's not Wagner?" Or is there a deeper thing going on?

One of the things that modern storytelling is guilty of is diluting the concept of evil. Evil needs to be absurdly world ending in fiction - thus making the many small evils invisible

Another day, another #adventofcode solution. Today was pretty simple, with part 2 being pretty much the easiest twist imaginable. Still, fun to implement with zero-copy, and reasonably fast on my machine as a result.

#adventofcode... how i lo(v|ath)e you. Today was only working in some degree because I brutally reverse engineered the input, and applied a smart search knowing the program had certain properties.

In other words, a good start to the home stretch... now, if only I had a solution to Day15/2.

Day 13 of #adventofcode was not quite as friday-the-13th as I expected it to be. My background in a math-heavy uni helped, I supposed. Anyway, after having quite a bit of trouble yesterday, today was nice & relaxing.

Day 11 of #adventofcode, and it feels this is the first time where brute force did not potentially work. :) Anyway, not a terribly tough one, but it required a bit of thinking. Can't wait to see the next steps.

Today's #adventofcode was a joy. I'm not quite done it with yet, but there's no obvious backdoor here, since the input is lovingly crafted to cut off the obvious ideas to optimize (there is no globally valid ordering in my input)

Day 4 for #adventofcode done - and today was kinda another gimme. Which I don't complain about, we're still early in the month and the tough nuts to crack will come, no doubt.

Still, it is gratifying to see how many solutions can be simplified with just a bit of thinking.

Today's #adventofcode was a fun little fluffly exercise. Finding the best spot to break out of the parser framework and hand-code was the biggest challenge, but eh. :D Fun.

Today's #adventofcode is weird. I have a perfectly well-performing solution - and still keep beating my head against doing it in one pass.

I just won't accept that the "dumb" solution is really the best.
